UK Regulations

This morning I have recieved a proposal document from the Healthcare Commission.

From 2009, they are proposing that ALL Lasers and IPL’s used for hair removal, thread veins and skin blemishes will be DE -REGULATED.

This means that there will be no check that the clinic has insurance, no one to check if the machines are working properly, that the staff are trained, no Criminal Records Bureau clearance, no protection for children, no protection for the consumer at all.

Despite the fact that I pay the HC over 30k a year and they give me nothing but grief, I feel that this is a very bad move for consumers. Any one will be able to buy a laser or IPL one day and get going the next on clients. You could have paedophiles setting up clinics specifically for children - yes, I do get stupid mothers wanting their 12 year old daughters bikini lasered. It really doesn’t bear thinking about.

I would urge any consumer who is also worried about this to write to the HC and object to the proposal. The deadline is June.

If you would like to read the whole document please PM me with your e mail and I will send it to you.

Is it possible to not just post the link for us to see? I’m extremely interested in this, if it is true this is a huge mistake. A grade 4 medical laser is capable of ruining someones skin permanently.

Skin, eyes…

I recently learned of a physician owned med spa that was using YAG goggles while operating a LightSheer (diode). They admitted that they were unaware that different wavelengths required wavelength specific eye protection. Properly trained laser operators would not make that mistake.

Hi

I have searched both DoH and HC websites and there is no mention of it. Looking at the document, clinics are not on the circulation list and I was sent it by a collegue. Obviously, they are trying to keep keep it quiet.

Does anyone know of another way I can get it seen by you?

I contacted the Healthcare Commission and it seems to be correct that the deregulation of Lasers and IPL’s seems to is under consideration, which personally I think is absaloute ludacrousy. The most likely reason why it is not mentioned yet is because it is down to the DoH and that it is still “under consideration”.

Here’s the email I recieved a couple of days ago:

Hi

There is something very odd going on here and I really do not understand it.

I posted on here the web link to the consultation document on Friday (I think) and checked over the weekend to see if there were any replies. There were none. Seeing Benji’s reply today I clicked onto the thread and my post had been deleted.

I also had 2 PM and replied to them with the web link. They have both now been removed.

This is the link to the actual document.

Could a moderator give me some explaination? I though censorship ended at Kittys

Hiya Pea,

Yeah there is something going on with the forums at the moment, I lost several of my posts on other threads the other day and a couple of private messages.

I highly doubt it’s anything sinister, just a bug or something.

Benji

Yeah, there have been some issues with the forum it seems. Some messages from specific days seem to have disappeared.
