Two questions: Missed Cycles and Induced Growth

So I’m a male and a skin type II-III, and I have a laser appointment tomorrow for my legs and arms tomorrow. I realize I should’ve asked this sooner… but oh well. So for my legs, I am going for my 4th treatment. I had one last July, then October, then had to wait awhile until March, and now going again. My first question is that I can see after the third treatment, I have a lot less hair. Since I missed being treated in December/January for a cycle, how will my legs be in the winter? Will they look hairier because I missed a cycle? :frowning:

My second question is about induced growth. I’m having my arms done tomorrow. I know there is a risk of induced growth on the upper arms. However, I had my full arms done at another place using an Apogee Elite laser (we did around 9 treatments, most of which were weak-medium strength, so I still have a bit of hair on my forearm), so now I’m going to a place with a GentleLase (They use 18mm/16J). Now, with the Apogee, when they did the upper arm, I never experienced any induced growth at all, even after 9 treatments over the past couple years. My question is… could I still get induced growth using the GentleLase? It seems like if I was going to get induced growth, I would’ve had it by now.

Hi brenton…let me tell a few things. If your hairs are fine and not noticebale from distance, never laser them.Because if you laser them, they will fall only to grow stronger due to repair mechanism and melanin content in them is very less so very less heat is absorbed and follicle remain active or become stronger. You are best judge.Laser is only effective on dark terminal hairs…But if you have not noticed any induced growth after 9 treatments than you dont have to worry.Missing the cycles means your hairs must have entered into telogen or catagen phase…you may require one or two extra sessions to catch them in anagen.thata all, otherwise you dont have to worry.

Mostly no. If they do, have a treatment then.

Chances are very thin. And almost zero if your hair is dark and coarse there and high settings are used. 18mm/16J on GentleLase is high.

Alrighty, I feel way better about the legs then. Thank you both! It would just be awkward to see my legs cycle between hairy and smooth… on their own -.-

The hair is pitch black, and I am quite white. The hair isn’t super coarse (there might be a few hairs there considered coarse), so I’m not expecting much reduction. The question is where to have them stop, or just have them do the full arm. I would’ve figured induced growth would have happened by now if it was going to, so I’m more tempted to do my full arm, but I would die if now induced growth happens :(. My guess is that is laser probably won’t do much to help the reduction, although I feel like I’ve noticed a small amount of reduction after the previous laser treatments.

I got some photos now!!:

I would not have any further laser treatments. Instead, I would use the money to zap individual hairs that bother you. It is probably too late to say that now .

Oh no, there’s still time before my laser treatment haha. It looks like there’s enough hair that I could get cleared with electrolysis pretty quickly – only downside is that it takes time away from treating other areas

I don’t think your arm hair is very fine. You can still give it a try with laser.

Well if anyone is curious (which is probably no one but I’ll post anyways) – the place I go is a dermatologist’s office, and I get treated by a PA (Physician’s Assistant.) I told her that I had read about some people getting induced growth on the upper arms, and she told me that she’s had 2 male patients tell her that they experienced induced growth on the upper arm. Since neither of us though we would see a big reduction on the upper arm, we didn’t think it was worth the risk of inducting growth, so we only went about half-way up the upper arm. So for $525, I got 3/4 of my arm done, hands, bikini, full legs, and tops of my feet using a GentleLase with 18mm/16J. Money well spent.

Good
