Two Different Places

Had Electrolysis at two different places the past couple of weeks. The first one seemed very knowledgable, made me feel at ease and has been practicing for 28 years. The treatment I received was comfortable and not at all painful, (zapped twice) using an Apilus machine. I couldn’t feel the insertion nor feel the removal of the hair, she even showed me one or two hairs with the bulb attached. I did notice that some hairs she seemed to wiggle…perhaps testing to see if they had released properly before removing them.

The second lady has 30 years experience, and during the consultation she showed me pictures of the stages of hair growth and explained that chin hairs have a cycle of around 10 weeks (is that right?). She ask me lots of questions regarding bloods and if other family members had problems with hair. I must also state that she works at the local hospital in the Endocronology (sp?) Dept. The treatment I received was more painful, I could feel most of the hairs being removed, but not like being plucked. She said she was feeling for the hairs as she couldn’t actually see them. She did not advise me about after treatment care, nor did she apply any creams or lotions after treatment.

Both ladies did say that in their eyes I don’t have a problem, but it is obviously something that is bothering me…therefore they are prepared to treat me. Both ladies suggest 10 mins, 2 weeks apart. The only thing I find is that they don’t seem to be seeing what I’m seeing and I get home seeing hair that I wanted removed…either their visual equipment isn’t upto much, or what’s bothering me, isn’t what they would call problem hairs.

I’m sorry this is a lenghty post but I really need some feedback. Which lady would you prefer to get treatment from…based on what I have said here?

Thanks guys!

Well… lady number one sounds good with her Apilus and insertion and removal technique/skills. Where are you getting hair removed? What’s her vision equipment like? Are you looking at the area with 10X magnification at home?

Dee

We often have clients who become consumed with worry about their hair. These clients examine their own skin so closely that they see huge horrible hairs when and where they truly have nearly invisible hairs.

An electrologist can remove those fine (nearly invisible) hairs. (And they should be able to see, not just feel.) What the consumer needs to do is to realize that they have an obsession with their hair - and it’s okay to say, “I am obsessed with my hair. I hate it, I want it gone.” The client also needs to find an electrologist that they trust and who will perform treatments that will leave their skin in the best condition possible. The trust involves listening to the electrologists advice and following it. No tweezing, no waxing, and not making appointments with 3 different practitioners a week. (We can tell!)

Thanks for your replies…I have to say I am way obsessed with this hair, but I’m not silly enough to look in a magnified mirror…blimey I’ll scare myself into an early grave! LOL The area that I’m getting done is my chin, and though I have a few black hairs, in the main they are light but stick out and feel spikey to touch. I can see these hairs in a normal mirror up close…but more so in the sun light. I am cutting them because they stick out, but perhaps they look worse because they then have a blunt end. Lady number one I did think was better, reason being the treatment was comfortable and I couldn’t feel the hairs being removed. What I should have said in my last post was…one treatment each with 2 different electrologists, 1st electrologist last week and the 2nd electrologist this week.
The first lady left my face red but not throbbing and after a couple of hours there was vertially no sign of treatment. The other lady left my face throbbing and I now have small scabs.

I think I’ll stick with lady number one for the moment, I’ll ask her on Weds what magnification she is using. All I know is it is a halo type mag with a light around it.

Any other comments would be gratefully received…thanks!

Did she wear special glasses on her face?

I like to call the hairs you describe on your chin as “sun catchers” and indeed they can removed successfully. You are great----- you actually trim the hairs instead of tweeze. Fabulous.

I agree with Barbara CPE that an electrologist should not feel the hairs, but should be able to see them. Occassionaly, a client will say to me, “did you get the one here on my neck?” Even with my great magnification, if the hair is white or clear and the halogen light is not positioned correctly, I may miss it. It does help when the client can point out those lone wolf hairs in odd places.

PLEASE post the name and location of the electrologist here in this thread if you are happy. It really helps someone else for future questions. Do include a description of her equipment and technique and healing scenario afterwards as well.

Thanks,

Dee

No Dee, she didn’t use special glasses. The only mag she used was the halo type light attached to the wall. The Sun Catchers are spikey due to previous incompetent Electrologists plucking…I wasn’t as clued up about these things until I found this site.

I will indeed post a recommedation for this lady, but I feel I should go to her a couple more times before I make a final conclusion and report. The last thing I want to do is get someones hopes up, and for them to have them dashed. If this lady is the one…then the UK ladies in that area will be happy for a recommedation I’m sure.
