I had my first treatment Tuesday on my upper lip and am having no problems thus far, using antibacterial soap & witch hazel. I am confused on the sensation that we should or should not be feeling when the hair is coming out. I did feel a slight sensation and am not sure how to describe it as pulling, tugging sound very similar to me. I mentioned I was feeling “some” hairs being pulled and she said this was normal. Can someone please advise me as to what sensation IS normal & how to differentiate between “tug & pull” as my next session is Tuesday. After the health history consult, she worked on my upper lip for about 30 minutes and said she removed 160 hairs(I could see the number on her computer). The pain was tolerable, no numbing cream needed or used. She used the gold probe as I have the nickel allergy. Should I not feel anything after the initial zap, for lack of a better word??? She also said I could use clear aloe or neosporin after the witch hazel. I used clear aloe first 2 days.
Ok, I just read on fino gior that you should not feel ANY sensation or nothing is being accomplished…am I wasting my money because I did “feel” some hairs coming out with a slight pull. Please advise. Thanks.
Some hairs have a big follicle, and you might feel that follicle coming out, which is why occasionally there is a “tugging” sensation. As long as you’re not feeling it for every hair, you should be fine.
It’s a different sensation than plucking. You can pluck just 1 hair from your upper lip or face to get and idea of what that feels like, as opposed to the ‘tugging’.
I too am confused about the tug/pull sensation, I feel these sensations on most hairs on my chin, very rarely do I feel nothing at all. I did ask my therapist to treat a few hairs at the side of my mouth and I most certainly did feel plucking with all of those hairs. I’m guessing the treatment I’m receiving is not what I’m paying for. Any feedback?
In the beginning when the hair is in all different stages of hair growth you will feel quite a few of them coming out. The telogen, or resting, hairs almost feel like they are glued into the follicle and you will definitely feel those come out. It is the actively growing hairs that you don’t want to feel. If you are still feeling the tugging feeling after the first clearance then you should worry.
There is a difference between a “pop” and a tug. When the hair root mass is larger than the hair shaft, it comes through like a pimple bursting through the skin. As long as you don’t feel the same thing you feel when you pull a hair out on your own, you are doing just fine.
I disagree with the Gior statement about NO SENSATION upon the removal of the hair. Hair follicles are lined with sheaths that will be of different thicknesses, depending on the type of hair and the individual’s heritage and health. There can be some traction when the hair comes out. People have varying degrees of sensitivity to sensations, and that traction may be noticable to one person and not to another.
Jes and James described it very well. I do wonder though, if that test “tug” is felt by the client and thought to be a tweeze.
It shouldn’t feel like a “yank” or a “jerk”. (Even though some of us may be Yanks, none of us want to be jerks!) (…and please read that last sentence in the spirit it was intended - an attempt at humor.)
