Hi everyone. I’m a white male with brown hair. I’m looking to get laser removal done on the back/sides of my neck where i get deep terrible ingrown hairs everytime i shave. From what i hear laser is better than IPL ?
So i was wondering if anyone could tell me which laser/IPL i should be using from these choices ? These are what i have found being used in my city.
I don’t know anything about the Palomar or Sharplight. Nd:Yag is the wavelength of the laser. It’s not a brand. The Diode is a different wavelength. I’m partial to Candela lasers, but it doesn’t look like that is an option. The laser can effect results, but I think far more important are the settings used and the skills of the person performing the treatment.
Also, you didn’t mention your skin type, but unless you have fairly dark skin (tan easily) I recommend you get treated with an Alex laser which is yet another wavelength than the Yag and Diode. Hope this helps some.
Can you post a clear picture of treatment area so we can see if laser is even a reasonable option for you?
Avoid all IPLs. Diode and ND:Yag are true lasers meant for dark skin. ND:Yag being slightly superior to Diode. If you’re a true Skin Type 3, you should seek 755 Alexandrite wavelength laser from Candela, Synosure or Epicare. The brands you mention especially Polomar laser were first generation lasers and are not considered good by current industry trends.
Of all your options, stick to diode or ND:Yag but 755 Alexandrite laser produces better results for hair removal.
Sorry it’s hard to get a clear picture but here it is. Imgur: The magic of the Internet The area that is outlined needs to go. EVERY single time i shave i get ingrown hairs. Bad ones. I am even on antibiotics for them for the past 3 months. For the most part the hair on the back of my neck grows down but on the back towards the sides it starts growing across and up causing ingrowns when i shave. What do you think ? Should i try and find a location with a Alexandrite laser instead of ND YAG ? Thank you !
If I were you I would definitely find an Alex laser. Also, it’s hard to tell from the picture, but make sure the hair is dense and coarse. I got LHR on the back of my neck and it made it worse…actually stimulated new hair growth.
I don’t think ND:Yag or diode will produce good results as the patch of hair is not that dense. Your skin is light enough to handle Alexandrite so find Alexandrite laser but better yet, look into electrolysis because they area you’re clearing is not large and not dense so this is not a challenge for electrolosys and should not be an expensive venture.
Thanks guys. The other day i ended up going to a place that uses the ND:Yag. After a half hour consultation i decided to pay the $65 CAD and try it out. She even did more on the sides of my neck and along the back collar line of my t shirt. Barely felt anything and i’m due back in 4 weeks. She said after 6 - 8 sessions it will be pretty much gone.
