Trimming and or bleaching between sessions

Hello everybody.

I started Electrolysis at the beginning of April and I am pretty happy with the results so far. I am female with a beard that is easily hidden with makeup, but I’m just honestly sick of wearing makeup. My problem area has always been my upper lip. I’ve been going once a week for two hours and like I said I’m pretty happy with the results.

The hair that is left is getting finer and finer as it grows in. This is great, but as fine as it is getting, it’s still very dark and noticable, mostly after about five or six days prior to treatment. I’ve stopped shaving it but I trim the now sparse hairs on my upper lips in those final days before my next treatment. I mentioned to my Electrologist that I was trimming, and she said it’s better than shaving. My question is, is this going to effect the electrolysis process at all? Should I just bleach the hair between sessions instead of trimming it, and is bleaching okay?

Thank you for any help or advice you can give me.

Renee

you can shave, trim, or bleach. any of these are fine. i wouldn’t bleach a few days before and after treatment though since it irritates the skin. plus, it makes it more difficult for the electrologist to see the hair. there is no difference between shaving and trimming. shaving is basically trimming closer to the skin.

I don’t mind if my clients bleach, but I would rather they clip or shave in between treatments. I can see the hair fine when they bleach because I have professional magnification (surgical loupes 4.8X). Bleached hair is really neat because when the hairs that are growing, grow, one can see the darker part of the hair peaking out of the skin, while the rest of the hair beyond stays lighter. Does your practitoner have quality eyewear? You will have to follow her preferences since she has worked on you and knows you best.

Electrologists are all different. There are many differences among us, but we all can get to the end of the road providing you with permanent hair removal… well, most of us can.
