Treatment Diary - Beard Removal

Hi there,

I had my first electrolysis appointment this past Saturday and I thought I’d share my experience. My goal is to have the hair on my face and neck removed. Initially I started with laser thinking that permanent hair reduction was what I wanted, but came to realize that I really wanted it all gone - so I’ve switched to electrolysis.

I was referred to the electrologist that I’m seeing through a friend and I’ve also found some good reviews of her on Hairtell. They do blend electrolysis and the machine is an Electro Blend.

I went in for a consultation a couple of weeks ago and my first appointment was this past Saturday. I’m going in once per week for one hour sessions. My beard isn’t too dense, but I have hairs pretty high up on my cheeks. She started on my cheeks and started working her way down. After an hour she had reached down to mid-cheek on both sides and had made a sculpted line going to my sideburn area.

I had some redness and puffiness immediately after treatment, but that was pretty much gone by that night. I’ve been putting witch hazel on it during the day and tea tree oil at night. That seems to have sped along my recovery time nicely. My skin looks pretty much normal today.

As far as pain goes - it was uncomfortable, but bearable. Way less painful than laser… we’ll see how I feel about that when we get to my upper lip!

I’m a little paranoid about scarring. What should I be on the lookout for?

I really appreciate reading everyone’s experiences and the input of the moderators on this board…

Thanks!

You’d notice any skin issues pretty much immediately or within a day or two. So if everything is healing fine, no need to worry about scarring.

Please give some updates BlackNyx. I am about to undergo electrolysis for my beard. Would love to hear how you are coming along. Thank you.

Hi there,

Sorry for the delay in posting an update. I just saw that there was a request asking for info.

I can’t believe that I’ve been going to electrolysis for over six months. The main reason that I haven’t posted any updates is that the hair removal process is just chugging along really without any drama. It’s definitely a slow process that has been made slower by an occasional lack of funds to go as often as I would like. Electrolysis isn’t cheap.

We’re slowly working down my beard from my cheeks. I used to have hair on my face high up on my cheeks, but I’m pretty much hairless there now. My electrologist clears any fine hairs that are left there and then starts to work her way down on my face. We’re pretty much at the mid-cheek level right now - and everything is going fine.

Later in the day my face looks pretty much normal with some slight bumpiness where she’s worked at. I’ll put witch hazel on the treated areas in the day and tea tree oil at night - and that does the trick.

Let me know if you have any questions…
