Treating Distorted Follicles

I was working on my right hand and have had difficulty getting the hairs to release. These are hairs I have tweezed extensively over the years, almost obsessively. The hairs themselves appear to be 30 or 40 lye unit hairs at most. Insertions felt right on and were easy in this area.

I could not get them to consistently easily release, even using blend at 12% thermo 3 pulses and 0.38mA DC (preset 77 on my Apilus); it took anywhere from 40-80 seconds for each hair. After some experimenting, I left the thermo settings as they were and cranked the DC up high to 0.85ma. Then, they started to release reasonably consistently at 40-50sec but suspected this is still too much time, given they are only 40 unit hairs at most (the UL calculator on my Apilus says those settings are suitable for 85 unit hairs!)

My question is, could it be the follicles are badly distorted from plucking and this is why they hairs will not release easily? If it is because the follicles are distorted, what is the best strategy to use to treat them? More HF and/or more DC? Or low settings (eg. 10% HF 2 pulses and .30ma?) and just use as much time needed at those settings?

You either add more High Frequency, or add more High Frequency Pulses in order to reduce the time needed to get this result. Your hair bulbs are either longer, or fatter than elsewhere on your body in this place, and you need to do more energy in total, as it is being dispersed throughout a larger area.

Technically speaking, you could also add more DC or more time to either the DC or HF treatment energies, but who wants to spend more time waiting when one can have a tolerable treatment in a shorter time?

You are exactly right, the bulbs on the anagen hairs are quite large given the size of the rest of the hair (the same size as some of the 50-60 unit hairs on my legs.) The hairs are also rooted as deep under the skin in the hands as they are in my leg hairs. Oddly though, the same settings that work on the legs are not high enough for the hands ?

Is there a way to tell if the follicles are distorted by looking at the hair? (sorry if this is a dumb question, I don’t have a book that explains how to tell). My pro working on my upper and lower lip said those follicles are badly distorted and that is why she had a tough time getting them to release.

If you insist on working on yourself, please buy Mike Bono’s book, The Blend Method (Real World Electrology), as it is the best book for explaining electrolysis for a person going from no knowledge to understanding how to do this.

There is a difference in the angle that hairs sit in the legs, and the depth inside the skin at other areas. This is just one of the many factors for getting a good release.

I have the Bono book (second edition) and the Modern Electrology book by Fino Gior. I have read the Bono book twice, once when trying galvanic and then again when I went to blend. It was incredibly helpful and I wish I could find the first edition with the omitted beginners’ chapters. I am looking for the Meharg book right now.

I followed Bono’s guide to doing blend, establishing T.I.D.S., determining the lye units of the hair as he described, finding the HF starting point and doing the blend formula. This procedure worked great on my legs and upper arms. It didn’t seem to work on my hands, and I looked in both books to find out what to do if the hair follicles are badly distorted and what adjustments need to be made to compensate. My pro electro showed me the skin chart with the fish hook-like distorted follicles and said my upper lip and lower lip had follicles like that; she said it was from plucking. So I figured the hands would have similarly distorted follicles and needed to find out how to compensate.

Maybe the information is in the Bono book or the Gior book and I am just too dumb to find this specific information in the books I have. :frowning:

However, James’ advice was right on and did solve the problem perfectly (use more HF and keep DC the same). Thanks again! Sorry for so many questions :frowning:

You are very welcome.

You know better than most that I really am here just trying to help because I actually give a damn.
