Too far in to stop and reverse laser hair removal results?

Hello everyone,

I have started laser hair removal on my chest, stomach and arms

So I have finished 6 treatments with the Venus Versa IPL machine

And 2 treatments so far with the candela Gentlemax Pro

My results are wishy washy so far as after every treatment sometimes it seems like my areas are completely bare and sometimes it seems like the treatments barely had any effect which has made me very confused as to what my final results will look like after I finish another 6 to 8 treatments with the candela Gentlemax pro.

I’m a skin type between 3 and 4 (olive Indian skin color) with dark slightly coarse black hair (bit finer and lighter now after those treatments so far).

My question was would it be too late to stop lhr and wait for my hair to grow back on my arms chest and stomach to a point where it’s going to look lighter and finer since I didn’t do many treatments already or is it too late and I will have patchy growth now and should finish all my treatments?

with that skin tone you will be VERY lucky if you dont experience paradoxal laser hair stimuulated growth. I wouldnt do any more, until I was VERY sure what the results are. Paradoxal laser stimulation is NO JOKE.

i’m going to have the client I am currently working on reply to this thread tonight after we finish, as she experienced just this condition, and it’s taken me most of 18 month to bring the issue to it’s conclusion. And yes, she has indian/pakistani type olive complexion too.

Why do you say that? The clinic that’s doing my laser is called Milan Laser who seems to be extremely reputable and has a lifetime guarantee as well. I don’t seem to be experiencing any type of paradoxical growth right now, in fact it does seem to be working pretty well but again it’s very patchy and at a point where I’m very uncomfortable to show my arms to the public although my stomach and chest look fine. Both of the clinic I went to says my skin tone and hair color are pretty suitable and good for laser.

There are plenty of people on this forum and YouTube that seem to have success with the same type of skin tone I have so why so quick to say it’s more likely that I will have paradoxical hair growth? Also I do see results after each treatment but it doesn’t be seem to be in order, for example after the first three ipl treatments all three areas had barely any stubble and just few patches of hair however that lasted only three weeks. While after the 4 5 and 6th ipl treatments the results did not seem to be as drastic. While after the first treatment with the candela it seemed a bit more better in terms of results but after the second treatment so far there seems to be barely any change. However the tech did say she’ll be moving up the joules after each treatment so I guess I should give it a few kore treatments to see what going on. Cause if I stop now won’t my hair regrowth be patchy with hair in some spots and bald spots for the rest of the surface area?

Seana has your best interests in mind. Her and other electrologists have seen several clients with what is believed to be paradoxical growth, and this tends to be often reported by South Asians who receive laser treatments.

I’m not convinced that laser is the culprit. Further scientific studies are necessary, but I digress. The point is that for every success story, there are also countless South Asian clients who have received a round (or more) of laser treatments and view the results as being the same as before or worse.

I explained in your other thread that you should not expect any considerable results from IPL. This is only really done with light skin types in mind, and even they experience poor or unpredictable results. Increasing the joules for each successive treatment is often necessary, but the danger with darker skin types is that too high settings can create more severe skin reactions. Your clinician must take care to ensure any skin reactions are temporary.

Because you’ve only done a few laser treatments, I would suggest your hair will be less patchy as you allow new cycles to grow in without treatments. You’ll have to evaluate this yourself if you feel comfortable enough to stop treatments. Continuing laser treatments and electrolysis in the future are both options for you, so you don’t need to stress that you’ll be permanently patchy if you stop laser treatments now.

A point I would make with regards to YouTube reviews of laser hair reduction is that the beauty bloggers very typically review the procedure after only one or two treatments when they experience hairlessness for the four to six weeks between treatments. It’s rarer to find a video that addresses the reduction (or lack thereof) after a round of six to ten treatments. These videos exist, but they tend to be about laser on the underarm or legs and are done on an ideal skin and hair type.

Thank you scurvy for answering this one for me, I’m super busy these days and working a stupid number of hours and didnt get back to it in the ONE HOUR I had between work and bed time last night.

And Scurvy is right. the issue is that those with Olive complexion tend to be VERY susceptable to pardoxal stimulation I have personally witnessed this on several clients after only a few sessions, leading to all vellus /fine hair stimulated into course growth phase hairs in very short order. It’s crippling mentally to the people affected, and I can personally tell you I have well into 100 hours over 1q8 months on face and entire torso on at least one client. She’s here right now awaiting treatment and after 18 months, her skin is PERFECT!

The patchiness , even if you dont have pardoxal stimulation, will resolve as you cease treatment. It resolves, by all the bare patches growing right back in.

I’d love to say more on this, but I have to go to work for the next 3 hours, removing laser stimulated hair. It’s affected some of my clients so significantly, they have ceased school/working until res\olved. I dont liek to see anyone go through that.

I’m known to say that there are some people who should NEVER do laser, and I would classify those with olive complexion as one of those.

Thanks for the ride reply Scurvy,

And yes I do know this about IPL which is why after 6 treatments I stopped IPL and started treatments at a highly rated and reviewed and reputable laser clinic known as Milan Laser Hair Removal. They also have a lifetime guarantee and provide touch ups for your entire lifetime whenever you feel the need to have touch ups after your course of laser treatments are finished. Again, they are treating me with he Candela GentleMax Pro and just finished my second treatment a few days ago. The techs are indeed increasing joules for each successive treatment I started at 14 joules, my second treatment was at 16 joules and my next treatment will be at 18 joules although I believe I should demand to go upto 19 joules at the least for better results. Now the stubble that is growing back is growing extremely extremely slow which is why I believe the laser is working and I would say as of right now 40% of the treated areas are bald patches and the rest is very short slow growing stubble that has become lighter and a bit finer. My plan is to not shave at ALL until it’s a few days before my next treatment and see how my hair growth looks like then. What are some signs of possible paradoxical hair growth? And what should I expect a few days before my next treatment in terms of hair growth if laser is indeed working properly?

These images here show my skin tone, Seana would you consider this olive skin tone or a bit different? It’s also showing some of the stubble that is growing extremely slow. Also before treatments these hairs were a lot more darker and coarser which is why I believe laser is working. The stubble does not always fall out, most of it does, but for some reason some of them don’t fall out but they do slide out easily when I pull on them.
