Thicker hair with time

Hi everyone,

I have been undergoing electrolysis treatments for about a year. My electrolysis treatments are primarilying in the upper inner thigh area. Treatments cover a wide area. I’ve been under the premise that the longer the new hair stays on your body, the thicker it becomes, hense tougher to illiminate. Has anyone found this to be true?

Thanks, Nowcher

A newly formed anagen hair is more vulnerable to the electrologist’s probe than a hair that has had time to grow stronger and sturdier. With that said, it is not impossible to eliminate the stronger, bigger hair either. Sometimes a bigger hair may need to be broken down and that may require more time. Even if the hair is treated once and then returns in the next hair growth cycle, it will most likely be a finer hair. The odds of doing ANY hair in for good goes up 100 percent if you have a skilled electrologist and you stick close to him or her by staying on a definite schedule over a period of 9-12 months. Extremely hairy cases will take longer.

How many treatments have you had and how close were they together over this period of a year?

Dee

Also, please note that if you aren’t scheduling appointments that will completely clear an area with each visit, total treatment time will vary. Work needs to be done methodically otherwise it is impossible to track and make a determination if a hair is new growth or possibly regrowth.

what color is your hair?

My one hour treatments were once a week, sometimes twice a week. They began in November 2005. I never tracked the process. My electrolysis maps out the same area starting in the same spot each time. If there is time left over she continues removing hair in new areas until the hour is up. I stopped treatments temporarily 6 weeks ago just to see how much hair would grow back. I never used any other method of removal since my treatments stopped. The hair that grew back is still coarse and plentiful, even in the spot where she first started. I am somewhat discouraged. I need to energize myself before I restart the treatments.

The color of my hair is black. I am 49 years old. I have been told that because I am at the age where my hormones are changing, this also has a negitive effect too on the coarseness of the hair?

You should have been done by now if that was the amount of time you put in.

Can you provide more details? Anything you felt or observed would be helpful. She was using a probe to insert into each follicle, correct? What kind of sensation did you feel? Have you researched and learned what you can about electrolysis or is this the first step of inquiry, visiting hairtell, to help you sort out what is happening or should be happening? Is she the only electrologist you have had treatment with?

Dee

Yesterday on hairtell was my first inquiry about my treatments.I personally don’t know anyone else who had electrology. I did basic research online prior to my treatments mainly to find out how long it would take. The answers were to vague and was said to be based on each individual. I took the approach similar to a weekly work out. Turn it into a routine. Add it to my weekly schedule and don’t stop until it is done. Now that a year has gone by, I thought I’d take a break and evaluate my progress. That’s when I found this website.
I had one electrolgist. She used a probe that was inserted into the follicle. It is hard to describe the sensations I felt. The feeling was like a slight pin prick then a couple seconds later a pain jolt. The upper inner thigh area was more sensitive as the tratment moved upward. I started applying EMLA an hour before treatments which considerably eased the pain.

with your hair type, this area would respond well and quickly to laser. it would be faster and less time-consuming, and probably much cheaper. i’ve had bikini treatments with great results that you can read about. that’s also an option. it would cost around $100-150 every 2-3 months and you would need 6-8 treatments. if you’re interested in that option, you should read the FAQs and do research to find the best place to do it. we can help too. www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm

in terms of your situation, something sounds off. maybe the settings she’s using are pretty low. also, we tend to forget what we started with, so taking a picture helps to keep track of progress. did you always go in on time and got the new hairs killed as soon as they came in during the anagen phase? do you know how long she’s been doing this? what does she say about the lack of progress you feel?
