Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum community but I like what i read. I have a few questions about electrolysis. I have dark course hair that grows on the sides of my face (sideburn pattern?), under my chin, on the end of my chin, and on my upper lip. The chin and under chin hair just started growing less than a year ago and I am of course devasted by it. I am a young girl and I find it completely embarrassing. I’ve talked to a doctor and she prescribed me with vaniqa and birht control pills, although i haven’t been diagnosed with PCOS. It’s either hormonal or heredity because my mother has it as well.
I can’t afford laser and from what i’ve read, it isn’t very successful sounding. There is a clinic in a town about 30 minutes away
that offers one hour sessions for 45$. I am wondering what it feels like, how long it should take, is the price reasonable? (i figure it is cheaper than laser) I like that electrolysis is FDA approved and am hoping to start it in a few months. Any thought or input is appreciated. Thank you for your time.
That price is very inexpensive as compared to others. What city and state is this electrologist working?
Are you tweezing now? Shaving? Bleaching? Nothing?
The answers to that will allow us to give you OUR recommendations, but we will also ask questions about your consultation…once you go.
The center is located in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
I have waxed my face before but I am definately not a wax addict. It hurts my skin and causes it to peel. I think I can say that I wax less than ten times a year. I tweeze the hairs on the end of my chin, but Vaniqa has somewhat hindered their growth. (not as well as it claims to) I have bleached once with Salley Hansen but it caused more hair to grow in. I don’t shave my face and I am afraid to because I don’t want ingrown hairs.
Thank you for your time.
Laser is great, but for the right type of situation like coarse dense growth on larger areas like legs or underarms or bikini. It’s not that expensive at all, actually. I think people overestimate it. Plus, there are tons of deals around nowdays. You can get 95%+ removal on the underarms in 5-6 treatments spaced 2 months apart for $30-50 per treatment easily. I did.
On small areas and relatively sparse growth where precision is needed, electrolysis is best.
You should have a few consultations and sample treatments. I would call and ask what methods they use. Thermolysis is fastest. Blend is a bit slower. Galvanic is slowest. You need to sample to make sure the hair is coming out without resistance. You don’t want expensive plucking.
Vaniqa doesn’t really do much besides make the hair grow in a bit slower. It’s very expensive too. You should stop using it if you’re going to start electrolysis.
With electrolysis, the goal is to schedule long enough treatments to clear the area each time. If you can get clearances at every treatment, you only need to come in once every 3-4 weeks.
The only places that do laser in my area charge 500$ for 5 30 minute sessions, which i hear is a red flag in advertisement. There aren’t that many places in my area and I am looking to start electrolysis after I graduate (May)
thank your for your reply.
