I have heard you can get a tax credit for medical expenses in BC, Canada. Does anyone know anything about this? I have been undergoing electrolysis for 18 months and have spent about $16000 not including travel expenses (I have to take a ferry and a 3 different bus’s.) Needles to say, I could really use the break.
She is an RE CCE CPE.
I never went to a doctor who told me I needed to get this done. Obviously, I had/have a very strong need, but would use methods to try and hide the hair before, and never felt it necessary to consult a GP. (Should I do that now?)
I never received receipts from her, but I have kept track of all of my payments and dates…so I am hoping she will be able to provide me with receipts now that I have asked for them.
Using a tax program ‘medical expense optimizer’ it states that electrolysis can be tax deductable as long as it is preformed byu a medical practioner. It tells me nothing else.
I wrote off my electrolysis many years ago. It was allowed then, but no more, as far as I know. Wouldn’t hurt to check with a certified tax preparer or someone of that persuasion.
It depends on the situation. If one can get a doctor’s letter, one can get a write off for almost anything. At any rate, the electrolysis treatments would most easily be written off as an itimized deduction under medical care if the total amount qualifies under the percentages needed for the write off.
I have had a few clients claim their treatments on their taxes.
It was in the early 90’s that congress stopped allowing a tax credit for electrolysis as a medical expense. I remember it being in either Hair Route or the AEA’s journal. Guess what took it’s place though, hair transplants! There must have been a bunch of bald heads in congress that year!
Speaking of Hair Route, what’s going on there? I can’t remember the last time I received mine, and I always renewed for 2 years each time.
International Hair Route has mysteriously vanished. Haven’t had a copy since 2005. Word is that the son of the publishers took over the magazine and God only knows what happened after that. I’m out $48.00 for a two year subscription that I had just renewed. They are still listed on the website with subscription information and the option to pay per paypal. Someone needs to explain what happened and then I want my money returned. Phone calls and e-mails were not successful in the past, but you can try.
I did pay by credit card per paypal on their website back in 2005. Could not locate a real person to talk to from International Hair Route, so how could this have possibly been disputed? This website looks like it is still alive and active, but do not subscribe as you will never get anything for your money. Who pays to keep this site on the internet? Anyone have detective skills? I want my money back. This website looks legitimate. It’s like someone abandon a really nice house, never to be seen or heard from again. The AEA doesn’t seem to be privey to any information either.
I would like to say publicly that I am hurt by the way these people have handled the situation. The last time I spoke to them they asked me to turn in an article for the next issue (which never got published) and never returned any of my calls or emails again. Later, the phone numbers that I had were disconnected so that I did not even get answering machines.
That leaves me to get many contacts from all over the world asking ME where their magazine is, as I am the guy who is easy to find, but although my title was Associate Editor, I was only a person who wrote articles and made personal appearances on their behalf. I have never even been to their offices in Canada.
I wish I could tell you all more, and I wish I could get you all more, but short of starting a replacement publication, I am at a loss.
Thanks for the input James and thank you Hgo for the domain information. I don’t expect to get my money back. A lot of electrologists were dissed by International Hair Route magazine, something the owners ( I won’t put their names on the internet) should be ashamed of and at the very least, the former owners should have had the integrity to offer an explantion through the AEA or otherwise. They are still on my s… list.
Yes, I meant dispute it through either paypal or your credit card as a “product not received”. It usually doesn’t matter when you paid and they won’t ask you for their contact info (they get it through the payment system that transfers them your money).
The problem with that is both PayPal and the credit card companies have a 45 to 60 day window for complaints. After that, it is difficult to get any action towards a forced refund. That is why certain scammers we have discussed on the board so many times all do their best to stall the card holder until 60 days after the order before fully denying their refund requests.
When I say, “I want my money returned”, I am directing that solely at the publishers of International Hair Route. They have the power to cut the check. Being that there is an intergrety problem and they remain faceless and gutless, I know what the odds are of getting reimbursed. Actually, the bigger issue revolves around the question, “Where did you go and why?” Maybe there is a very good reason that we could all emphathize with, but for now, write me off as disgusted.
