I am 22 year old asian male. I had two laser treatment on my face and I right now notice the reduction are significant and the remaining hair appear thinner. I went to have a consultation with an electrologist and she said she can clear my face in about 3 hour.
Its been 6 weeks since my last laser treatment, So would that be a good idea to switch to electrolysis now or having one more laser treatment then switch to electrolysis?
2 laser treatments are not indicative of your results just yet. the full set of treatments is 6-8 at the minimum. you CAN switch to electrolysis however, but I would personally only do it once you’re not getting results from laser and it seems like you still are. Also, you should be waiting a minimum of 8 weeks between laser treatments to accurately judge reduction.
keep in mind the way electrolysis works. once the area is cleared with electrolysis, you would have to come in every few weeks to zap the new hairs. Due to growth stages, this process will be over the course of 12 months or so if you keep on schedule. Not sure if you realize this, so wanted to point out that you will not be done in one 3 hour treatment. There is more hair that you still have that is dormant and it takes a course of treatments over 12 months at least with both laser and electrolysis methods for that reason.
Yes, it would be a good idea. Electrolysis is more gentle on the face. It is also more thorough. Laser session returns diminish over time, if they, in fact, help at all. You cannot go wrong with electrolysis and you will find it can clear fast or faster than laser and definitely without the potential for burned or damaged skin.

This statement is misleading. If laser treatments are working, they take less time per treatment AND are spaced farther apart, so they cannot take less time than electrolysis which treats hairs one at a time and requires treatments several times per month. Also, electrolysis in bad hands can absolutely cause pitting, scarring and damage to the skin. You can read these forums to learn how to avoid inexperienced pratitioners. You should be looking for an experienced reputable person to do whichever method you decided on, electrolysis or laser, to avoid any negative side effects.
Yeah the reason I’m thinking going to electrolysis is because on my last treatment the laser operator increase the power a little bit and I did get some mild hyperpigmentation(hopefully this is temporary) on my upper lip and neck. The laser is Lightsheer diode. Also I thought that electrologist could clean up the hair more thoroughly. The electrologist that I found here(san antonio,tx) seems to be good, 20+yr experience + up to date machine(apilus senior).
For the face, electrolysis is best anyways. And yes, that’s a good machine. So let us know how the treatments go.
If your San Antonio Electrologist once lived and worked in Buffalo NY, then I know her
On a face, bad anything will cause lasting negative results.
That said, good electrolysis can get to first clearance on a face in anywhere from One Hour to Twenty Hours and then need reclearances once every 3 to 8 weeks. If the electrologist can’t meet the speed of the growth, one may require weekly visits just to keep up, but since the point here is the difference between the worse of the worst of both worlds, and the best of the best of both worlds, I think it should be pointed out that the best and fastest electrolysis would clear a face in 5 hours or less and require reclearances every 6 to 12 weeks, and would therefore be pretty easy and economical.
Just an update, I had a 2 hour electrolysis today. I don’t know whether she is being conservative or not since this is my first treatment but compare to laser this is walk in the park. The pain is minimum and there is no redness or swelling afterwards. She manage to clear half of my facial hair so it would need another 2 hour to clean it up. Based on my first treatment today, I’m very pleased with her.
By the way James, my electrologist is from Buffalo her name is Maryellen. Can’t believe u guys know each other, what a small world.
You are a lucky one. You found an “Electrolysis SuperFriend” Give her a hello for me, and tell her that I am eating her single order of wings at The Anchor Bar.
