Stereo Microscope

Do any electrologists viewing here have a stereo microscope like this?

I posted one from the forsale adds locally here that was listed for $7500 into the ebay thread recently Dee. I then did a little research and searched on the maker/model ( a zeiss ) and found the same model online for between 1100- 4000 in about a dozen places.
Doubt that one is the same make/model, but they all looked similar.

This company ( located in Colorado, I think) makes this scope which I’m told is the same as the Zeiss OPMI Pico, but less expensive. It is an ENT scope as opposed to a colposcope, (OPMI 99) like many electrologists use.

here’s the two I saw:

and this one I saw online:

Hmmm. I’m wondering if it has a 0-60 inclinable binoculars? Light source is halogen or LED? Magnification settings?

The last one is from Israel.

Dee,
I’m sure I wouldnt know. Check the manufacturers specifications perhaps?

A web search sys they are halogen, and 19X

I wonder how practical it would be for awkward areas, would love to be able to trial one. No more discomfort with heavy loupes while working on marathon session.

That’s my purpose for serious consideration in obtaining a scope like this, Mairi. I asked the sales rep about awkward areas and he said it would be great. It does pivot and turn. I would also be getting a 0-60 inclinable binocular where I could sit and look straight on, but could see hair below me. I am test driving one before I buy. I see fine with my set up now. It is the 4 plus hour sessions where this would be most helpful.

Thanks Seana and ekade for those links!

I know I’ve said this before Dee but with the coin you are about to drop, it bears repeating.

In my business, as you can imagine, we live under microscopes. No 2 sets of eyes are the same at all when it comes to a microscope. I don’t care if you have 2 people with 20/20 vision, a given microscope will not perform the same for both, period. Test drive any microscope before you commit yourself. What might be perfect for James, may be a headache generator for you and vice versa. Price matters some and brand matters little when it comes to your comfort. It does affect quality and durability a lot, but your day to day comfort it the primary consideration.

Test drive, test drive, test drive…

Any links to UK based suppliers?

Dee if the scope in Colorado is not to far away from me I would be happy to go take some extra pics for you if need be.

Thanks Gretchen for the offer . I may get back to you.

Mike, I really respect your words of wisdom and caution.

Mairi, Zeiss is the top dog in microscopes. Since Germany is your “neighbor” I would guess that you could get a great pre-owned scope almost anywhere in Europe.

The funny thing here is Dee knows I have scopes she could borrow, lease, or outright buy and won’t take one for a serious in office trial. Maybe we can brow beat her into that option. :-p

You’re right James, that is silly. And here I was giving Dee all this credit for being a smart woman. :stuck_out_tongue:

Are you talking about that 1970’s model swimming pool blue color scope I had at my office for two months last year that I couldn’t use because my arms weren’t long enough?

Hee! I’m just trying to picture this…

I once had an ex ( now deceased) who was trying to learn to drive. She was very short and I ended up strapping blocks of wood and rubber onto the pedals just so she could reach them. Maybe we need to get Dee some robot arms? Let me grab my duct tape I’m sure we can figure something out with a couple sticks…

… But… I want to look cool and modern!
