Starting Electrolysis

Hi everyone
First time posting and I was wondering if anyone can help me. I should apologise for my english first…
Well, I have an excesive problem with the HAIR!!! I 've done 6 professional IPL treatments but the hair is now back at its glory so i was looking around for something more permanent. I have white skin and black hair which is awfull. I was thinking of using silkn but i thought if the professional treatment had no result then this won’t do anything either so i looked into electrolysis. Unfortunately electrolysis is not provided in my city so i must do it by myself. And that’s why i am posting to get some help about the equipment i must buy(there is a discussion in the forums but the links are dead and outdate i think) and the procedure generally. If anyone can help…? please…
Thanks for you time…

Welcome to Hairtell, your best source for accurate info on hair removal!!

First off, you will most likely hear that it is best to visit a professional, and it’s true. They are faster, safer, more reliable, can do more than you can… the list goes on. I think most will encourage you to visit a pro, even if it means traveling a bit to find one.

What hair are you looking to rid yourself of? Where do you live? Someone here might be able to advise you on the location of a reliable professional if they know you are close enough to one.

But if you truly want to DIY, there are several threads here about selecting a good machine, and the initial steps to get you started. There are books you can read while you wait for a machine to arrive. I bought mine on Ebay for about 1/4 what it would have cost new, and it only had about 85 hours worth of use on it. A truly great deal, IMHO.

Look for some threads started y me, or Vickie NY, they are not very old, and are full of good info, where I was asking questions and getting answers, some from pros who moderate here, as well as other DIYers.

One thing you will be told, no matter what you decide… DO NOT, under any circumstances, attempt to remove hair from your own face! It ranks up there with trying to defuse your first bomb without any training. Even the pros, with YEARS of experience & millions of insertions, will tell you that they will find another pro to do facial hair removal.

Good luck!

EDIT: I just looked, and the first 5 pages of this forum are pretty much within the past 6 months, so very current, you should get no dead links from them. Lots of good info though!

We need more information about the hair situation in order to recommend any sort of action.

Where is the hair? Are you male or female? How coarse and dense is the hair?

Laser or IPL will only work on hair that’s COARSE and DENSE. And if that’s the type of hair you have, you still need someone experienced and using the right machine for your skin AND setting the correct settings. It sounds like one or more of these important factors was missing from your previous treatments.

Basically, you need to figure out what is the BEST solution for your problem first, before deciding whether to do DYI (a huge committment).

And if you’re looking for permanent removal, I would NOT recommend ANY home laser or IPL machines. If you do have the right type of hair and skin combo and you find out the proper professional laser or IPL treatments don’t work, the home machines will definitely not work. Not to mention they’re not powerful to disable the hair permanently.

Hi,

Am new here too and I want to learn more about electrolysis. Is it really safe and effective?

Thanks!

Electrolysis is The Gold Standard of Permanent Hair Removal, since 1860. Nothing works better, nor is more reliable.

Having said that, one must find someone who can perform the service well and get as much treatment as needed, and on the best schedule to get the best results in as short a time as possible.

This person is obviously a spammer, thus the links in his post.
