Spacing Sessions

Hi, i am trying to plan ahead and understand the reasons for spacing treatments 8 - 12 weeks apart.

my understand is so that the dormant hair can become active. you state 8 - 12 weeks, but if you leave it longer for example 15 weeks, would this be even better because more hairs would be growing and becoming active? or would this make treatments less effective or make no difference? sorry if its a silly question i was just wondering and thought i should just ask in here XD

many thanks,
jc

it’s 8-12 weeks because that’s how long it takes for the hair in the next phase to come out after the other hair sheds after the previous treatment. some areas have longer hair cycles, so 16 weeks can be ok too, like legs and back.

It all depends on the part of the body.

There is no point waiting too long, as the hair will eventually move to the resting stage.

Whilst the scalp hair has a very long anagen phase, the arms/chest/back etc do not. I suppose thats why you don’t you have ‘long’ chest hair.

I do not see the point in waiting an extra couple of weeks.

It’s worth it to wait a bit sometimes because the hairs gets more coarse, i.e. gets more pigment with time. However, there is a balance. You don’t want to wait for the hair to go into the resting phase. Areas like legs and back have long hair cycles, so waiting 12-14 weeks is fine on those areas.

ok thanks for the advice on laser. i am still yet to attempt it because i do not think i can afford it. i currently have the option to go for a cheap laser chain clinic but everybody seems to say bad things about it. so i have to decide whether i want to risk it or pay up to 4 times the price for a recommended place, which i dont think i can afford.

but i have another question! about spacing sessions still. luckily i can afford electrolysis, i am seeing somebody for my upper cheeks and inbetween the eye brows. it is going well i am happy. i’ve now booked to see her once every 2 weeks.
i was wondering if this is recomended? i have seen her around 3 or 4 times, usually 3 weeks apart, but decided to make it once every 2 weeks, she said it might work better because it will get the hair in the growing stage?

any opinions welcome! thanks, and thanks morrissey for the referal

That spacing is proper. Once you get full clearance, then even every three weeks to four weeks still would be okay, if you are not tempted to tweeze hairs as they cycle in.

She’s telling true.

The most efficient way to do electrolysis is to clear the areas you want cleared permanently each time you come in, and then come in as soon as you see new hair pop up on those areas to get them removed right away when they’re still weak. If you’re doing that consistently, you’ll be done within 12 months or so, and you’ll need to go in less and less often after several months of treatments.

You didn’t provide information on what areas you want treated with laser. If that place is cheap and it’s an area that’s easily treated, it may be ok to go with that one for now.

ok for the electrolysis she says i will be done within 6 months!! yeah im not tempted to touch the hairs in the areas treated just. well she also says its not recomended to treat all the hairs in the area, she just takes out the most obvious one as doing every hair could/may cause scarring. do you reccomend i see her once a week then?? but dont u think it wud be bad for my skin treating it so often, may cause scarring??

in regards to laser. i wanted to primarily treat my legs and buttocks. you mentioned 8 sessions would be a good amount. i would probably do 8 - 10 sessions on upper legs/buttocks and around 4 sessions on lower legs. what is your opinion on this?

thanks for the advice.

You cannot be completely done in 6 months due to hair cycles. It takes at least 9-12 months for all the hair there to cycle through. Scarring is not caused by removing too much hair. Problems can result from overtreating the skin in an area. So if she feels she would be overtreating, that’s fine not to clear the area. But you can come back as soon as the skin is healed. Also, she can alternate areas being treated to avoid overtreatment. If your skin heals just fine, then you’re not being overtreated. Not sure how long you’ve been going, but you should be getting complete clearances each time within a few months. It doesn’t sound like you’re treating that much hair.

No one can predict how many treatments you will need. It also depends on how effective those treatments are. If you’re having effective treatments, then 4 treatments or so is usually enough for a good reduction, and 8 or so for a good amount of removal.

Hiya PaleBoy,

My general advice is if you want to remove all the hair from one area and your a bit short for cash go for a cheaper clinic as you can get good amount hair reduction (if your a suitable candidate) even if their tecnique is not brilliant (just try nto to get annoyed if there are any areas missed) and if there are any remaining patches you can just have them re-lasered or cleared up with electrolysis (if it can’t be justified to have laser) once you finish the treatments.

When you say 4 treatments on your lower legs I’m figuring your wanting to reduce, not permanently remove all the hair. Think very carefully about practitioner skill when doing this, if it is not performed properly it can lead to bald patches or very very thinned out/fine haired patches and looking at previous posts on this, the general trend is the hair doesn’t return. Thus meaning a patchy haired area and more time and money spent sorting it out.

Sorry if I sound like a broken record here, I just want to make sure people are very careful with reducing hair as it has far more potential to go wrong. So I will now keep my gob closed and let you get on with it
Good luck with everything mate and keep us all updated, we need more English Laser diary’s hehe!

Kind regards,
Benji

Hi Paleboy

I know you where advised to look at the BIAE site for an electrologist is that where you’ve found someone from or was it by recommendation?

On the laser front I would say the important thing is to find the right nurse in the clinic that knows what’s she’s doing.

ok i will scrap that idea then! i dont actually mind hairy legs just as long as it stops around the knee area, and i dont want to spend unnecessary money anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok Benji this is to you, should i go to SK:N? i heard bad things from most people including you! Is the upper legs and buttocks a good area to treat, are treatments particularly effective there?

hey Anothergo, i was recommended by somebody in here, her name is Geri she works at home in Walthamstow and they are on the BIAE website, all their contact details are on there.

Okay the Cynosure is a good laser, personally I prefer the GentleLASE but hey, Harley STreet Sk:n decided to change. They are the cheapest around, no question. I’m not going to say yes or no, that’s down to you.
For clearing my back, yeah they did miss patches and it drove me nuts, but I have had good hair reduction on there and it has saved me money. I’m just a perfectionist, so I get annoyed when I have several missed patches (or when one the nurse tries to perscribe me glycolic acid for some blemishes on my upper arms, when I’m undergoing laser there).

The buttocks do get good results and the legs get even better, so as long as you have the right hair and skin type you should get some good results (as long as where ever you go they use a good laser with good settings). If you run a search on the site for good lasers, it should come up with recommendations.

Kind regards,
Benji

they have clinics in East Finchley, Harley Street, Holborn, Maida Vale, Shaftesbury Avenue, London Wall. Do they all use the same machine, i cant seem to find information on their website. i think i will stick to SK:N to start with, even their prices i can hardly afford! maybe i will touch up with laser active once the majority of hair is cleared and i have made a bit of money :stuck_out_tongue:

Sounds like a good plan, try giving the 0800 number a call and ask which clinics use which machine. If theyr’e not able to find out, ask them to ring the clinic direct).

Kind regards,
Benji
