some worries and questions

I’ve had at least 5 laser sessions on my face. The person doing this would have me come in every 3 to 4 weeks (which seems totally wrong from what i’ve been reading)

A lot of hair would fall out about 2 weeks after… but there would be noticeable patches of hair that didn’t fall out (mostly around the chin area …and the upper lip seemed barely effected by the laser).

I’d guess my skin is a type 3. I’m light if I haven’t tanned, but I can tan pretty well and don’t burn very easy (I guess my race is Caucasian… apparently I’m English, Irish, Scottish, French, and a tiny bit native Canadian). I have mostly thick and dark hair on my face, but I also have very light but thick hairs spread over my face too (weirdness). She (the electrologist/laser technician person) has told me that I also have hairs that appear dark but have light roots (is that common ?)… she said those hairs are almost like someone with red hair (My scalp hair looks pretty dark brown to me, and my darker facial hairs look almost black) … she also used the word iridescent when describing these hairs (i’m an alien)

She has been using the Apogee Elite Nd:YAG laser on me …I don’t know the settings other than that (joules, spot size, pulse width?)

After my last laser session (5th session) it seemed like 80 to 90% of the dark hairs fell out (seemed like the biggest shedding I had after a laser session with her)… and I was left with the weird thick blonde ones, the odd scattered darker hair, and a couple small strips of dark hair on my chin (damn chin area). Before the last laser session It had been around 2 months since I had LHR on my face (I started doing electrolysis on the upper lip). It’s now been over 2 months i think since that last laser session, and it seems like pretty much all the hair that fell out… has grown back. I’m not sure if the hairs are as thick as they were (she told me they look thinner), but it feels now like there’s been little to no reduction in the amount of hairs since the last session… My facial hair definitely isn’t as dense as it was when I started doing LHR on it though.

Anyway, now for my worries and questions lol… I have another laser session scheduled for later this month, and I’m worried that if she uses the same laser/settings, there won’t be much if any permanent reduction. I’m wondering if it would be safe to use the Alexandrite laser on my skin (i haven’t been tanning or even got out much this summer)?.. and if using that laser would be more effective for permanently removing these awful facial hairs  ? …I know laser won’t work for the blonde ones :frowning: …and possibly not on these weird iridescent ones she mentioned? …I’m also worried if doing anymore laser might even be a waste of money?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • Whatever never shed each time was likely not affected

  • What are your goals with these treatments? Not shaving at all after this is not possible

  • Yes, light hairs and hairs with light roots won’t be affected

  • If you’re as light as you describe, alex part of the Apogee Elite would be more effective

  • Whatever doesn’t shed should be touched up for free at 3 weeks.

  • Overlapping is very important to avoid patchy results.

My goal is to be completely rid of facial hair… I know I can’t achieve that with LHR …but I was hoping to greatly reduce the amount of hair on my face before having to finish with electrolysis.

…Uuuhg, so I guess when I was going in every 3 weeks I was paying full price for a touch up :frowning:

Thanks for your help LAgirl

You would still need touchups after you’re done with electrolysis too since your body will develop new hair with time. Also, this is a LOT of hair to treat permanently with both methods. Be prepared to spend several years on this and quite a bit of money.
