some queries regarding electrolysis

hi everyone,
I came across this site whilst looking for means to remove excess facial hair. I finished a course of laser in march of this year, and it has made the problem 10x worse (which from reading through some threads I have noticed is a common side-effect.)I am now considering electrolysis although I am pretty apprehensive, as I do not know anyone who has had it done, so I do not know who I could go to within the London area who will perform it successfully and safely.
Also, I know there are three types of methods, but which would be best for the facial area? I have quite sensitive skin, and as a result I did get some spots whilst undergoing laser (although they’ve mostly disappeared now) so which method would be best for my skin type to prevent any permanent scarring?
Also, I bleach the hair on my face, would it still be possible for electrolysis to be performed on these hairs, as I don’t think I can bare waiting for my hair to return to being black - my hair type is relatively fine however it is very dark and there is lots of it.

Send a message to stoppit&tidyup. She can help you with finding a good electrolysis in London.

As for the three types, any of them will give good results with a good electrologists. Be more concerned with the skill than the type.

I was actually writing a post before seeing Brenton’s

If you do a search for “London” you will come up with posts from London based users, other than myself.

Any type of electrolysis is suitable for the facial area but you will find blend and diathermy (thermolysis) are generally used in the UK.

You will get some kind of temporary reaction that can visibly last for hours, a few days or in the case that you develop some scabs a week or so. This all depends on your own skin reaction, the area being treated, how much is treated at one time (in terms of density) and of course the skill of the electrologist to keep the reaction to a minimum whilst still providing effective treatment.

I would say that if you are visiting a reputable electrologist, the risk of permanent scaring is very, very low (nil?). Sometimes, temporary reactions can last a while but they will heal.

There is no problem having treatment whilst bleaching - this is what I have done myself.

So in addition to your own searching and reading, here is so info:
I was treated at Parkside Beauty Centre in Islington.

Pokka has had very successful treatment in Dorking.

Mark started at Parkside with my old electrologist (Sharon) but has recently been to see Mairi Hawkes in Scotland:

This thread may help as cousinit probably had many of the same questions as you have/will have. I think it’s worth a read through.

Lastly, there is my sister’s thread in my signature which is a useful for anyone who is dealing with extremely fine but dense facial hair. My own pics are on the last page as well.

The reason I have given further info and options for you to read through is because depending on the density of hair you have and given that you bleach so the hairs are blonde in colour, Parkside may not be the quickest/cheapest option. In a case like my sister’s or mine, I would say it would be nigh on impossible without a HUGE time commitment which would be beyond reasonable financially speaking.

thank you for your reply: the information you have provided has been of help! From the sounds of it parkside doesn’t sound as though it is for me, but the results of pokka’s treatment in dorking is incredible, so I’m considering if travelling there would be a viable option for me, or if I need something a bit more nearer.

Hi hidingaway,

I would go for consultations at both places to begin with. It is very difficult to make a decision without visiting the electrologist and experiencing their set-up and some treatment. When you go for consultations the decision usually makes itself.

Secondly, both places are good and a bar with which you can use to measure any other places you decide to visit.

I do think it is worth having a consultation at Parkside because the set-up at Parkside and at Pokka’s electrologist is not that different. Do bear in mind that I successfully had my upper lip hair treated at Parkside (dense, fine, bleached hairs), along with other small areas such as the eyebrows, the coarse hairs on my sideburns, chin and around the areolas. For example, with the upper lip, most of the work was done within a year. Thereafter it was just a matter of a few minutes treatment every 3-4 weeks to clear up some persistent hairs. The problem was my extremely
dense beard area hair. Pokka’s hair was very light in comparison so I would take a good guess that her results would have been the same at Parkside.

My upper lip before:

The whole upper lip looked like the area that is picking up light and visible in the photo.

My upper lip would be considered hair free now. What is left (purposefully) is only visible under magnification. All my friends think it is hair free, which means no little hairs are catching light and showing themselves up at any time.
