There are more and more eyebrow hairs of mine growing much longer than the rest and in different shapes too. This started when I was 22 and it’s getting worse so I have to trim them down with scissors. I know that when people get old some hair increases and gets longer but how am I getting this so young already?
The eyebrow hairs are there to protect the skin over the sharp scull edge of the ocular orbit as well as prevent rain, sweat etc. from reaching the eye. In some people (mostly men, I have noticed), they get longer and coarser with age. I haven’t come across any articles that state when this process starts, but from observation in clients and relatives, it can be different from one person to another. My husband’s eyebrows became bushy very early on and he’s been trimming them since his late 20’s. My dad’s became bothersome in his 40’s. In ladies, I have noticed thicker longer hairs when they start approaching the menopause. But some ladies experience the opposite effect - thinning of the hair of the eyebrows. It is possibly pre-determined by your genes, so look at your parents eyebrows and ask them if they have observed the same and at what age. Hormones or lifestyle may also play a role.
I would have the bothersome hairs treated by electrolysis, but be careful not to overdo it and end up with gaps in the eyebrow.
