I had been seeing an electrologist from march last week to june last week. I had 10 (1 hour) thermolysis treatments on my upper lip, chin and side burns. I wasn’t expecting the permenant removal in these 3 months. I didn’t have any complaint about the electrologist as well as the treatment. She told me that she is using medium intensity. She didnt give me the setting number because each machine has different one. I never had any scar or scabs on my face after the treatment. She told me that
[1] I should not take a long between 2 treatments and should go for weekly treatments.
2] My chin hair are getting weak so they are growing inside the skin instead of directly coming out of the skin.
is this true??? please help.
Recently I moved and I found a new electrologist in an unscale saloon. I met her and she told me that she uses blend method, it is slow but effective. I didnt have much time to look for another electrologist because the facial hair were bothering me and hers was the nearest saloon from my new place. I found her professional and started the treatment. So far I just went for one 45 minute treatment. BEfore starting the treatment she told me to hold a metal rod rolled with a damp paper napkin. She told that this might be a new thing for me because this is not required for thermolysis. I told my old electrologist was giving me the same thing and she was surprised. I was a bit doubtful about all my previous treatment. Whether she treated me correctly or she was just inserting a probe and plucking the hair. Since I went every week, I dont find much different on my face.
The treatment was very painful. The treated area was red but that became normal after an hour. But on third day I found tiny dots on my upper lip and the area was rough ( i thought they are in grown hair) but later i found that they were scabs which i never had before. They are gone by now (after 5-6 days) Now I am not sure about few things. ( two are already mentioned before)
(1) which method is better for me and why?
(2) scabs on the skin are normal after the electrolysis?
Some people scab. Yours fell off appropriately, but do tell your electrologist. We try to get know different clients skin types and healing powers in the beginning. We need feedback in those early sessions so we know whether to make adjustments. Your aftercare can determine if you get scabs as well. You are complaining about increased ingrowns which leads me to wonder if the levels of intensity and timing were indeed adequate enough to kill the hair with the first electrologist. I don’t know. Are you prone to ingrowns?
The method doesn’t matter. Blend? Thermolysis? Both are great modalities when executed by a skilled electrologist.
If you held what we call an indifferent electrode wrapped in a wet paper towel for the thermlysis operator, she perhaps had an epilator that required this. My clients need to hold this piece so I don’t have to use a footswitch all day long. Too fatiguing and slows me down. If she uses thermolysis with an auto sensor, you need to hold this device. Your blend operator probably just didn’t know how certain epilators work.
So, pinpoint scabs that fall off within a week are acceptable, but ask your electrologist if she/he can do something different so you don’t get them in the first place.
I think scabs are normal, it will probly be like this for first few sessions after which your skin will get to normal sorta and you wont have as much scabs in your later treatments. Tea tree is good. I also reckon aloe vera helps on the treated area as well.
i never had ingrown hair before electrolysis but my first electrologist told me that she is not using high intensity because she is treating facial hair. and she also mentioned that hair roots are becoming weaker because of treatment and eventually they will become dead. but after reading dfahey’s reply now i am sure that my first electrologist did treat the area properly.
i will definitely mention about the scab to my electrologist.
