Softening prickly hair after shaving/trimming?

I am a somewhat hairy 20something year old guy and am interested in finding out some moisturizing/softening techniques for post-trimming.

I have a lot of long dark chest hair and really prefer how it looks after being trimmed to about a half an inch to an inch or so with electric clippers (otherwise it is really unusually long). Thing is, for a long time afterwards the hair is prickly and not so soft. While I don’t care personally about that, more than one girlfriend has declared it too scratchy. Are there any products or techniques that would help me soften this hair so it’s not uncomfortable for someone else? I’m thinking conditioners or oils, but would really appreciate some specifics or other ideas if anyone has them.

Thanks!

Truthfully, that’s why I began shaving it altogether. I used to trim my leg hairs, and when I got them a length that looked nice, they felt horrible to touch, just as you describe, all prickly. I finally accepted that if I wanted it smooth, I had to shave it smooth, so finally that’s what I did. I’ve been much happier ever ssince. Plus, there is simply nothing like the feeel of smooth shaven skin. The sheets feel wonderful on your legs, and your woman’s smooth body feels incredible next to yours. Women may comlain at first, but once they feel how nice smooth skin is against them, they will love it.

Hi roberto

There is not much you can do about prickly hair on your chest after trimming. I have found that it takes between 2 to 3 weeks to loose the sharp feel of the hairs. Some conditioners may help, but the problem originates from the end of the hair follicle being cut off and therefore “sharp”. As men we have coarse dense hair which makes this problem worse. All I could suggest is to consider repeated laser treatment to reduce the thickness and density of your chest hair. Shaving results will then be better.

I agree 100%. Shaving results got much better after just one laser treatment for me.

While I cannot say I am a huge fan of laser, I will agree with RJC that it definitely made shaving much easier. After 5 treatments I received a decent reduction and whenever I shaved my chest the other night it was much easier than when I used to do it before laser. The hairs are much thinner and easier to deal with.
