I had my 3rd laser treatment few days ago. The thing is, it is really painful, especially face, underarms, bikini areas. Is it normal? I feel I have to take advil or something before I go to the treatment. Also, I get acne like red breakout here and there, and it takes long time to heal. What is the recommended aftercare?
those places are definitely on the more painful side. im getting my back chest and stomach done. and around my nipples and my pubes section is 100x more painful than my back or stomach. also my chest breakout pretty bad for about 5 days after. just give it some time and use a loofah to scrub once it is tolerable.
thats what i can tell ya, thats what works for me.
It’s supposed to be painful. Are you female? The areas with the most coarse and dark hair hurt most. If the pain is too much, you can get a numbing cream. Icing helps too. You should avoid sweating and try to keep the area clean to avoid irritation. Do you know what laser and settings they’re using?
Use some cool aloe vera gel for several days after cleaning the areas.
It really makes me wonder why people complain about temporary break outs when proceedures like laser and electrolysis are meant to destroy/disable/permanently remove hair growing tissue.
There is something called the inflammation process. It is a natural response that starts immediately when there is “trauma” to the skin. These things are temporary and subside within a short time frame depending on the individual and other variables. Blisters, burns are another matter. They are outcomes beyond what is expected after a treatment.
Permanent hair removal can be ouchy. We are destroying tissue that has a lot of nerve endings. We would like it to be as wonderful as a massage or something similar, but that can only be wishful thinking. If one wants an effective treatment, permanent hair removal/reduction can be uncomfortable and it can leave temporary skin mainfestations that disappear anywhere from 30 minutes to one week.
If this is not helpful, I’ll try to explain another way.

In this case, I’d like to hear a bit more detail on what exactly is happening and how long it’s lasting. Unless it’s a men’s face where the hair is very dense and coarse, any irritation shouldn’t last more than 2-3 days.
maybe a picture would help?
yes it should hurt. otherwise it probably isnt very effective.
the thicker the hair, the more painful i have found it.
