Small dotted scabs after Nd:YAG laser

Hello All,

I am worried about the reaction I have had to laser treatment. I am a black female having treatment on my face.

After a course of several treatments, I had to move clinics due to location. They did a test patch which was fine but three days after the treatment and I have small scabs where the hair was. With my previous treatments I had no reaction whatsoever.

Please see pictures.

Do you think I will be scarred? What should I do?

Thank you.

What machine was used? Can you ask them for the name and settings used (joules, spot size, and pulse width)? You should only be using a Yag lasr on your skin type.

The photo doesn’t look out of the ordinary. It looks like singed hair. I would take a look in 3 weeks and see whether the hair has shed.

We need more information about your first treatment. Did the hair shed? If nothing happened, the settings may have been too low.

Thank you, I’ll get the information and get back to you. It was an Nd.Yag. Some of the scabs have now fallen off and it seems that the hair hasn’t shed completely. I’ll also pop back to the clinic and get their opinion.

Shedding takes 3 weeks. You should wait that long to judge.

Was the area shaved before treatment?

Yes, it was shaved 6 days before. How does this affect the treatment

It should be shaved 1-2 days prior. Otherwise, the skin can get burned along with the hair that is above the skin’s surface (thus the scabs). Close shave is best and it helps target the hair under the skin better.

It seems that you have burnt hair on your skin. Should resolve by itself within a few days. Depending on what NDYAG laser is being used, a little gel during the treatment would have helped.
