skin type 4.

Right now I’m considering getting laser done on my stomach again, and see what happens , however I’m still abit confuse as to what laser i should be treated by.Based on what I read here gentelase is good on really pale skin, however i’m skin type 4, so i dont know what type of laser is good for me!can some list all the types that are effictive and safe for my skin type, and area.

Any Nd:Yag laser, and possibly a diode if you are definitely no more than skin type 4.

I am type 4.5 I think (although it varies by body part), and my local clinic had a diode and said the results will be better if I try the Yag. Unfortunately, if you don’t live in a very large city, it will be hard to find someone with a Yag.

You said your hair there is fine. Yag laser is probably not going to work well. I would try an alex laser and see how high they can go on settings without burning you. If you can be treated at good settings on that, that’s your best bet. Otherwise, you need electrolysis.

what would be a good setting on an alex laser ? I can post pics of my stomach, will you examine it and tell me what would be a good option lagirl?

this is the best picture i could take, I dont have a good quality camera.

I’m sure lagirl will pop in to answer your question. Is this all the hair you have? Anybody that knows me here on hairtell knows I’m not against LASER, but honestly, a skilled electrologist could handle what I see here. A first clearance would be a cinch, with follow up for any new hair that pops up. Abdomens are not hard to do. It is not a long process either. Cost-wise, under $400-$500 totally, if that.

I’m not trying to crash in here and steer you away from LASER at all, but rather I guess I’m expressing my uneasiness with spending a lot more money when an experienced electrologist can clear and keep the area clear, until there is nothing left to clear in 9-12 months. First clearnace would take about an hour or less.

Why is the area red? Thanks for the picture.

thanks for replying to my question dfahey and I know that you are here to help, I appreciate that. The area is acutally very large, and there is alot more hair, my problem was that I couldn’t get my camera to focus from far away so I zoomed in to on the lower part of my stomach, the area is red and has scars from a very bad case of ingrown hair which has been removed or at least I hope so. I’ve had two electrolysis treatments and 8 laser treatments done on my stomach,in the past year. I would love to do electrolysis, and remove the hair forever, but I’m just so scared to damage the skin, since I has taken my skin a year ro heal from all the ingrown hair, and trust me what you see in this picture is actually an improvment from last year. The hair is not that coarse, not very fine either. I wish I could shave, but shaving is out of question for me , because when i shave I get ingrown hair, and my skin turns red and little red spots appear, I dont know why this happens but it does, it’s just not my stomach.

Thank you for your explanantion and good luck with your laser treatments, roma.

I don’t think laser is a good option for you. I think it will be a waste of money. My skin is lighter and I had to switch to electrolysis after 4 treatment because it wasn’t working on anything by the trail part which was most coarse.

Electrolysis won’t give you scarring if you find a good electrologist and use proper aftercare etc. I’m almost done with my abdomen treatments myself and am very happy with results. No scarring or signs of hair removal at all btw. I would invest my money into electrolysis only if I were you. Laser just won’t be able to get those hairs in my opinion.

thanks lagirl.I’m going to wait for a while and see what happens. I booked a consultation with a clinic with gentelase, I’m gonna see whats their opinion about it, and then I will make my decision.

ok, let us know how it goes. see how high they will go on your skin with GentleLASE. if money is not an issue at all, i guess you can try it. I used the GentleLASE too btw on this area and it didn’t work even at 30 joules 15mm spot size setting except on the very coarse hairs.

Another area that really concerns me are my legs, and I dont think getting electrolysis is an option here, since the area is so large and hairy. Does laser work good on legs of a female , i’m not looking for 90-80 reduction 50-60 would be fine.
this is a picture of my legs the hair is dark, and the skin is type 4. Am I a good canidate?

I called in for a consulation at a clinic with a yag alex, and they charge $50 just for a consulation, sounds very expensive, and unreasonable, plus she said its not even a consulation, when you come in you have to purchase a treatment, I was confused and told her that I would call back, Of course I didn’t call back. I’ve been to alot of clinics and none of them are like this, a consulation takes about 10 minutes.

Legs are one of the easier parts to treat. You should get a good reduction at the very least. What do you mean by Yag Alex?

Also, just thought I’d point out that I think you perceive yourself more hairy than you actually are. All your pictures seem pretty normal and many people have it much worse. I know this whole hair removal thing can get a bit obssessive at times. I experience that myself as well. Probably some sort of mild OCD. Please do consider some kind of therapy for it though if it gets really bad and you notice this being a problem.

Thanks lagirl for replying , I do think I obesses over this alot, it’s constantly on my mind, but my problem is that I have a very senstive skin, the hair on my legs are not that bad, your right some people do have it worse. I have ingrown hair everywhere on my legs when I shave after an hour each follicle turns red and purple. My stomach was worse before I got laser, laser did work to some extent but not to my expectation, which were really high. I still have the scars on my stomach, they take a very long time to heal. I even went to a derm she gave my antibiotics they worked alittle for a while, but then i stopped taking them. And as for the yag alex thats what she said over the phone, at least thats what I heard.

there are a few machines which are an alex and a yag combined, like the Apogee Elite and I think a new one called GentleMax. maybe it’s one of those. It’s best to find out the name of the machine before you go in.

You are not a skin type 4. Even with a bad white balance on your camera, your inflammed (red) pustules stand out quite well from your skin. You’re a 2, light 3 at the worst.

I think its somewhere between skin type 3, and 4. And yes it could be gentlemax, but i decided not to go in, she was very weird over the phone. I have another question for u Lagirl. How does the settings work on the laserscope? I was treated by laserscope on my stomach, and I was wondering maybe they setting wasn’t right since its very important to have the right setting.

i don’t know how the settings on it compare to other machines. it’s definitely not one of the popular machines. as sslhr said, you are probably light enough for an alex laser and should only try that if you want to achieve any sort of results. a Yag laser would definitely not work on that hair.
