Skin damage after laser hair removal

So I began my journey with laser hair removal using home device Tria 3x. I managed to get rid of most of the hair from my cheeks.
I thought I’d need professional help to get rid of what left.
I started with clinic using Alexandrite laser going up with the power up to the recent maximum apparently (?) 34J.
My skin after the last treatment was severely burnt and painful. I noticed shredding jn 1-2 week time. I had stronger regrowth than ever, with hair being even thicker.
It’s really hard to show it on pictures. I still have one treatment left, was wondering if no:YAG would help or it’s gonna do even more damage. I feel terrible, I stopped leaving home, I can’t hide it under any makeup. It looks so bad.
There are also broken veins on my skin, which I never had before. I used to have a beatiful smooth skin, now I can’t leave my house without gobs of makeup. I hate myself.

Just wanted to add, this is how it looks after 7 treatments. Every treatment seemed to be making it look worse. I’ve been told that it will eventually fade away. Was trying to use hydroquinone. It helped first, but after last 2 treatments it got even worse.
Some of the skin is purple/blueish and some is deep red.
When I stretch the skin colour seems to be concentrated round hairs.
It took away all of my confidence.

First, I’m not a laser expert. But I do know a few things about laser.
I dont think that the “veins” you are seeing are indeed Veins. I think they might be the remnants of charred hair, which should push themselves out eventually. I think that Nora Nou could probably advise you better than I could on that.
The “Rapid regrowth” is however concerning. This might indicate paradoxal hypertrichosis ( Paradoxal laser hair stimulation). If you have a olive complexion ( I honestly couldnt tell from your photos as the lighting and camera werent the best) this could be the case. That being the case, I would not recommend continuing with laser treatments and would proceed to electrolysis.

Thank you very much for your reply.
First of all - I’m sure these are broken veins. There’s no dead hair left under my skin atm.
I have skin type 2 apparently.

– IPL/Laser can damages vessels. Once the treatment stops, it may take time to heal. For more info => https://beauty-electrolysis-laser.blogspot.com/2019/10/burn-by-laser-or-ipl-post-treatment.html

Hi! How frustrating I went through A similar issue a couple of years ago. On the bright side it doesn’t look like burns which is easier to fix! From the pics you posted it looks like broken capillaries to me. Hydroquinone can actually make broken capillaries looked more pronounced. It also thins the skin &can cause pigment with laser heat or even if you’re wearing a mask. Also it’s not recommended to use hydroquinone between laser treatments unless you’ve stopped it a week before which is fine. Luckily there’s a solution! In order to remove the broken capillaries I’d look into an excel v laser treatment. I’m skin type 2 as well &had it done on my face for broken capillaries You can get it done at a dermatologists office usually for around $300 depending on where you live. I hope this helps! Lmk!

I do not understand why they used YAG on you. You are definitely an Alexandrite Treatment. A Yag laser with very HIGH SETTINGS , depending on SPOT SIZE may induce broken capillaries. However, those can be fixed with laser as well.

It’s first important to note that B6A didn’t say they used Nd:Yag, rather Alexandrite, and is asking whether Nd:Yag would be more effective given the treated skin type.

The problem here is different wavelengths are attracted to different concentrations of melanin. This is not simple and straight forward because your skin and hair may compete for or oppose certain wavelengths. From hearing your story, if you believe an Alexandrite laser on your skin at 34J (which is not the max unless you had a low power system) was powerful, yet ineffective - 1064nm may not improve the results, but an 800nm IPL might. Don’t get mad at the estheticians, or even the equipment - it’s a craft, and sometimes the patient has to find the people with the right equipment for their specific skin and color type combo.

After laser hair removal your treatment, redness & bumps at the treatment area are common; these may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for a few hours. You should use a cold compress if the sensitivity continues.

It’s normal if the irritation lasts for several days but not for weeks. Such problems should be solved with the involvement of a qualified dermatologist in order not to worsen the situation and achieve a quick recovery. I guess I was lucky because I didn’t experience a similar problem. I’m one of those lucky ones who once randomly chose a laser hair removal clinic and still using it. The specialists at https://beulaser.co.uk did a thorough examination of my skin before proceeding with hair removal. I’m sure it’s dangerous to start such a procedure without the necessary tests and analyzes. I hope you have already found a solution.

I just finished with treatment number five at Milan laser. I get the Brazilian and full legs and I am having the same issues, broken capillaries, in random spots on my legs. When I went back for the fifth treatment, it actually spread and caused more broken capillaries in the areas where they already started. I received a phone call from one of the Milan laser’s physicians out of Nebraska basically telling me that it’s not from the the laser because it is impossible for a laser for hair removal to do that. I am not convinced, I just do not think they have enough studies on hair removal overall and they already got my money. The laser has also caused bruising on my pelvic area and on my kneecaps. The laser has caused brown spots on my legs that Milan laser’s physician is claiming will eventually go away. However, I stoped treatment for about six months before I just had treatment 5 and they are still present.
