Simultaneous electrolysis and laser treatment

I have been doing laser treatment for back and chest hair for about one year, and am continuing with treatments at 3-4 week intervals. It’s been very satisfactory with great results.

To remove my white hair, on which the laser is ineffective, I started my first electrolysis treatment 2 days ago on my chest. I have a lot of white hair on the chest, some on the stomach and a little on the back, and intend to rid it by electrolysis.

I had the electrolysis about 2 weeks after the last laser treatment, so the hairs were a good 0.5-1.0 cm long and easy to work on.

Now my question is: when is it safe to go back and have another laser treatment. The area that was treated by electrolysis is still pretty red (after 2 days) but healing pretty quickly. I will ask my laser practitioner to avoid the area that was treated by electrolysis, but I suppose she will have to come close around the edges. I want to be sure that it’s OK to shave the area near where the electrologist worked, and also to apply the laser light near the area where I had electrolysis. I have my next laser appointment on Thursday - that will be exactly one week after the electrolysis.

Thank you for your advice!

I’ve often heard it recommended to have at least 4-6 weeks between electrolysis and laser treatment. Mostly if I recall correctly this has to do with the skins healing process.

If you are still having LHR sessions this often after one year, it is unlikely that your treatment has been as efficient as you think. I suggest leaving way longer between these treatments in order to get more perspective on the true progress. What do other posters think, particularly those who have had LHR?

I agree with C O’Connell. I have had laser and if you’ve been going for over a year and you still go every 3-4 weeks, that’s over kill and may be screwing up your hair growth cycle. You should not be going that often. If your hair isn’t greatly reduced after a year and this many sessions, laser might not be effective for you.

I had laser sessions over a period of time, spacing the sessions out about 8 - 12 weeks for maximum effectiveness but there IS a time when you will experience diminishing returns. That is because every hair able to be “disabled” by the laser has been disabled, as you have had all of your available hairs treated over every cycle.

When you reach that point, the leftover hair is not able to be treated by laser.

After a year of going monthly, you have certainly reached that point.

Just to clarify, the one year wasn’t all in the same place! I started the back first, then the chest and stomach later. The back is done and on “maintenance” (every six months or so). I started the chest and stomach in October of last year.

It has been quite effective, leaving only the white.

I recover very quickly from laser treatment; the skin is hardly red at all and within a day is completely normal. I just want to be sure I can laser near the area treated by electrolysis within a week.
