I was advised that I should powder the skin before I do any waxing. Particularly on the face. Any advice on this?
Hey there! I’ve been regularly waxing for years now and have waxed both powdered and bare. From what I’ve experienced, a thin layer of powder (I usually just use the corn starch baby powder you can find in big bottles at any drug store) helps to lessen the grip wax has on the skin and also seems to help grab the hairs to be pulled. I’m not sure why but I definitely notice a difference. I think maybe since it dries up moisture, it must make it easier for the wax to grip the hair and not lay flat and stick to the skin.
I’d say for sensitive areas like bikini, face, and armpits, powder is a should-have.
There are actually some waxes that require that a thin layer of oil be applied to the skin but for the most part, almost all waxes work better when powder is used. Yes, since many people do not want to apply powder to their skin because of the talc, corn starch is a good substitute.
You need to read the instructions that come with your product.
I don’t use powder because it seems to make it less effective, but I use pre-waxed cold strips, I don’t know if it would be different with hot wax.
Most of the people I have talked to about powdering the skin say that they don’t use it, unless the area is sweaty(under the arms, etc.). I might give it a try myself just to see the outcome.
How have you been applying the powder to the skin?
Thanks,
