Should I continue with laser?

Hi there,

I’m from the UK with dark skin (of Iranian origin) and almost black hair. The hair on my upper lip was excessive so I started having IPL in January. I went monthly and am about to have my eighth treatment, and I really don’t know how to tell how well it’s worked. I definitely have not had the results I had hoped for, and so I will definitely be moving to electrolysis shortly.

Basically, between treatments the hair growth is so all over the place; sometimes 2 weeks will go by and barely any noticeable hair will grow back (this can be directly after the treatment or two weeks later, there is no discernable pattern), but then after I shave it, it can immediately be stubbly and seem more plentiful. I’ve definitely seen improvement in the general amount of hair, but shaving isn’t working out for me, and I’m just wondering if I have gotten everything out of laser that I can, or whether I should give it a couple more treatments to get the most out of it.

Any advice appreciated!

Carmen.

IPL on the face is a very bad idea, it’s even worse when you have dark skin. Induced hair growth usually happen on the face and usually for people with darker skin. Since IPL is not a true laser, it is less likely to kill the hair and when the hair isn’t killed it may grow stronger in certain areas like woman’s face.

Well I’ve already done it, so I can’t help that. You recommend I move to electrolysis right away?

Unless you have COARSE DENSE hair on your upper lip, only electrolysis will work and you should have gone that route from the start. IPL is not good, and especially useless on finer hair and dark skin.
