Should I be further along by now?

I’ve been seeing an electrologist about an hour and a half a week on my buttocks for 8 months and still have quite a bit of regrowth every time. My electrologist seems to get the area fairly clear each time, so I don’t understand why I haven’t been able to go longer between sessions. It’s really frustrating. If I wait even two weeks, I have hair everywhere.

I previously waxed the area for years, not knowing that I was just stimulating more growth. It’s mainly on my lower cheeks, but there are some finer, light brown hairs further up.

I’ve thought about changing my electrologist, but the hair is in a sensitive area and I’ve finally gotten comfortable with her. She uses the blend method, but I wonder if she’s not using enough juice to kill the hair. She tells me the area looks much better than when I first started, but I’m starting to lose hope that it will ever be clear. I keep reading that once an area is clear, it can be weeks before new growth appears. This has never been the case with me. I’m afraid to miss a week because the hair is there so quickly. (And I’m not asking for perfection, just to not have those darker hairs).

I’ve spent a fortune already and don’t know if I’m getting the right results. I’d hoped to be mostly clear by December, but am worried that I’ll be right where I am now. Please help!

Bytheroots1, all (male and female) have groups of 3 hairs very close together. Generally, group 3 is composed of a central thick hair and two adjacent fine hairs (one left and one right). In the little hairy people, these groups can not be appreciated because the adjacent hairs are so fine, short and blond that are invisible to the naked eye. These invisible hairs to acquire thickness and color over time and the development hair of the individual.

If the area has been previously waxed, every hair of these groups, is growing at a different speed. Thick hair appears first and will be eliminated in the first clearance. One of the adjacent appears later (second clearance) and the third of the adjacent, appears last (third clearance).

After 8 months, 2 hairs in each group should have been removed permanently. So my advice is as follows. Ask someone to observe the area carefully. If you have more than one hair in each group, something is wrong.

One more thing, the skin should be soft at this stage of treatment. If the hairs prick, the electrolysis is not being properly applied.

Thank you for your help. The skin is fairly soft, but there are some darker, prickly hairs too. I’ve been thinking something is wrong for a while, but was hopeful that it would get better. I will ask someone to look at the area.

My next appointment is in a week, and I wonder if I should just tell my electrologist concerns. I really don’t want to start over with someone else, but I may be forced to.

If you could take a picture of good quality (only a portion of treated skin) and send private message me or Dee, James or other electrologists, we could be more precise. I promise you total confidentiality.

Currently I’m working on this area (buttocks) in a 30 year old male. If he allows me I will send a photo in private. He is in his first month of treatment, but he has started with most of the hairs present, therefore he will soon see the results.

I would talk to her frankly and politely about your concerns. Ask her to show you hair structures. The hair should slide out.

You would be surprised how well things go when you communicate well with someone. This may all be resolved with one conversation and you will not then be investing so much time worying and stewing.

Thanks depilacionelectr and Dee. I think it’s going to be ok. The chart above helped. The hairs are more spaced out, and it’s mostly the finer hairs now. I talked to my electrologist and she said she thinks my years of waxing is to blame for some of it. I’m going to see how things look in December and try to be patient.

Oh, yes. Years of waxing can make hair stronger and sturdier. We have to gradually break down some hair structures to protect the upper skin. Some hair germ cells may be missed during the first treatment, so those hairs do regrow, but they are thinner and more vulnerable to currents of electrolysis.

Is the hair coming out without resistance each time it’s zapped? That’s important. And it should be coming out completely and not breaking off at the skin’s surface, which creates the illusion of regrowth.

How many electrologists have you tried? I would recommend trying 2-3 more to compare things. I would also see if you can find someone using thermolysis method, as it will be a lot faster.
