Shaving/Trimming ritual (add yours)

I’m starting this thread hoping others will chime in with their daily or weekly shaving/trimming habits so that everyone else can get some ideas or will see something they didn’t think of. Also, it might be interesting to see all of the different methods and amount of time spent- can’t believe I spend this much time on it, but the look is worth it for me.

I’m a 40 year old male and have been shaving/trimming at least some parts of my body (other than my face) for about 12 to 15 years. The reason I do this is because I like the look and if I didn’t trim/shave, then all of the hair on my legs and arms would be over an inch long and very thick (arm hair like Robin Williams, only light instead of dark). I started trimming my legs a couple of months ago and wonder why I didn’t do it sooner- everything matches now and looks so much better. It looked kind of ridiculous with over 1" leg hair and trimmed/shaved everywhere else. Part of the reason I started trimming my legs is because of the Norelco BodyGroom making it much easier. It works great for trimming and is twice as fast as a beard trimmer since it’s twice as wide.

Every hair on my entire body is either trimmed or shaved, depending on where it is. I even give myself a weekly haircut, keeping the hair on my head at about 1/4 inch.

My most involved day of hair trimming/shaving is on Saturday morning where I will spend around 2 hours including my haircut. I usually start by using the Seiko Cleancut on the perineum, anus and crack. I will then shave my penis and scrotum using a Braun electric razor (the same one I use on my face).

I will then grab my older model Braun electric razor and go over my butt with it followed by my underarms and shoulders. I also use it on the tops of my feet. I use my Norelco BodyGroom (without an attachment) on my back where I have a few hairs here and there, but not bad.

I then use the #1 attachment on the BodyGroom and start with my pubic hair and work my way up across my stomach and chest all the way up to my neck (I do my chest/stomach/pubes only once a week).

I put the #2 attachment on the BodyGroom and use it on my arms (I only trim my arms once a week). Then I trim my goatee, shave my face and give myself a haircut. When I’m in the shower, I use a Gillette Mach III Turbo for my butt and that’s it for Saturday.

On Sunday evening before I go to bed, I use the BodyGroom with the #1 attachment on my legs. I do this once or twice a week, if twice, I also do it on Wednesday evening. This takes about half an hour to complete.

My daily shaving ritual consists of the entire genital and anal areas, butt, underarms, shoulders, face, top of feet and back of neck. This takes about 45 minutes to an hour to complete each morning before I shower.

Good thread! Your post shows that no single shaver, or trimmer, is best for all areas. You have quite an arsenal for hair removal. Like you, I find using a variety of shavers and trimmers for different areas gives better results. I prefer to shave clean rather than trim. I use trimmers when the shaver misses the hair.

I have had great success with laser hair removal on my chest, abs, and back. My chest and armpits are basically hairfee. I shave the few hairs that are left once a week and am having those cleaned up with electrolysis. I use the Gillette Fusion Power in the shower for those areas.

I shave my back once a week with a Remington Smooth and Silky WDF-5500 electric. I don’t notice the return of any significant hair until about a week has passed. I am having the small amount of hair left in that area cleaned up with electrolysis and the hair is going fast!

Twice a week I use the Fusion Power on my arms and legs, mostly on Mondays and Fridays. On other days for those areas, I use either the Braun Activator 8585, upgraded with a 360 Complete Foil, or the shaver attachment on the Remington BHT-2000 High Precision Body Hair Trimmer.

I also use the Braun Activator on my beard every day. I got 80 percent hair reduction (removal, whatever you want to call it) from laser and IPL, so now it only takes a few minutes to do my beard. I shave my head either every day, or every other day, depending on if I oversleep or not LOL! I prefer to use the Fusion Power, but will use a Braun Syncro 7505 if I am in a hurry.

Once a week, usually on Saturday I use the Norelco Bodygroom on my butt and private parts. I like the Bodygroom because it can trim and shave in one operation. I have recently found the shaving attachment for the Remington BHT-2000 to work even better in some of those areas and may change over to that in some places. The Bodygroom has been nicking me in some places so I am thinking of changing over to the Seiko PS-335 trimmer and the Cleancut, or using the Remington BHT-2000 shaver. A review on Amazon.com claims the Remington works better than the Cleancut.

I hate body hair. I hides muscular development, and it’s hot and sweaty! I am going for complete permanent removal on my upper body and am well on my way. The focus now is on the upper arms and back of the shoulders. There is not a lot of hair left there after laser but nonetheless it is annoying. Electrolysis is going very fast as laser got the bulk of the hair.

My legs aren’t as hairy and I’ve had a few laser and IPL treatments there so I will stick with shaving for now as it gives quite good results.

Did you remove all of your chest hair?

I am considering laser hair removal (I am a fairly dark skinned Italian) but am considering leaving a patch on my chest (between my nipples) as I think I look too different with NO hair on my hest.

Will they do something like that?

I have lost almost 20 lbs in the last six months, and I too think that you can see my slight six pack MUCH better with no hair.

I am 52.

Wow! That is a very long time to spend each day! I hate body hair too, but I could never spend that much time each day…If it got to that point I would look into laser.

I shave my face every other day with a Wilkinson Sword 3D safety razor with guard wires. Then I apply Ultra Shave as a post hair removal moisturiser as I have sensitive skin that nicks easily. Ultra Shave is really a dry shaving cream, but I prefer wet shaving. It is a truly wonderful moisturiser and it makes my skin look youthful (I’m 40).

My chest is virtually hair free which suits me fine as I enjoy body building and think a smooth hair free physique looks more attractive.

I trim the hair on my legs to about 0.25 cm once per month using a Remington BHT 2000. It’s great for legs, but doesn’t pick up fine hair on the butt cheeks so well.

To trim testicle hair I use a Shavy trimmer. It’s toothbrush like shape makes it very easy to handle and its gentle enough not to nick or bite. I tried the BHT 2000 before and it caught the delicate skin too often - ouch!!

Occasionally, I shave off all my pubic hair and for this I use the Seiko Cleancut. Once again its a very gentle shaver and I prefer it over the Remington as it doesn’t bite.

Personally, I don’t mind a little body hair as it does look manly I suppose. The problem with maintaining a completely shaved body is time, something I just don’t seem to have enough of. That’s why trimming suits me just fine.

Yes, you can remove as much or as little as you like with laser. Being darker, you need to have darker coarse hair for good results with laser. if you want more information, please read the FAQs and the laser part of this forum. www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm
