Shaking during laser sessions?

So, today I finally went to get some laser hair removal on my legs, armpits and bikini line. It wasn’t quite so dreadfully painful as I’d feared (thank the heavens). Although, some odd reaction happened: I started shaking like mad. Especially my legs, I looked like a doll getting their strings pulled. I think I might have frightened the practitioner a bit, poor woman. She told me it wasn’t a common reaction at all. I hadn’t even had any caffeine, I’d only taken an aspirine for a headache but I doubt it would cause that reaction (it never did).

Could it have been a reaction to the continued pain? I’ve gotten laser treatment on my face before and I’ve underwent electrolysis and nothing similar happened. Aside from the uncontrolled shaking I felt fine, no headache, no dizziness, only annoyance and a bit stressed at the time because I just wanted it to stop.

I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone before. I feel fine now so I don’t think it’s a reason to go running over to the doctor, just it was a curious side effect and not a very fun one at that. Let’s hope next time it will be better. Maybe I just need to control my breathing and go all zen.

Headache medicine often contains caffeine, unless of course you took just an acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) tablet.

But I’ve downed coffee right before my treatments and never had that issue.

Maybe you were nervous?

I was a bit nervous, yes, but not that nervous, especially after I figured out it didn’t hurt quite that much. I have been stressed out lately, though, so maybe it was a culminating of everything.

During electrolysis, I may spasm during the zapping of a single hair if it hits just the wrong nerve ending. I suppose that for LHR, a similar reaction would appear as multiple muscle jerks and a shaking. This, however, was not my reaction during LHR. Just a twitch on occasion for the electro probe!

When I had LHR a few years ago I would shake a bit on some areas. It was an involuntary response with me but nothing to worry about.
