Seeking electrolysis treatment, advice needed!

Hey everyone.

Firstly, I would just like to say how glad I am to have stumbled across this website! If it wasnt for all your comments and contributions, I would be absolutley clueless and naive about facial hair removal.

One thing I have learnt from you is that when you have fine and light facial hair, laser is not recommended and electrolysis is…

Here is my story. I am a 21 female, with fine facial hair all over my face (neck, jaw, chin, cheeks, sides, cheekbones…) Some are black whilst some are blonde in colour (weird I know!)

I live in London, and have found some places that provide electrolysis treatment, do any of you know or recommend these places?

  1. Seema Health and Beauty in Hendon
  2. Depilex in Wigmore Street
  3. Renew Medica in Oxford Street
  4. Sara Thomas in Harrow
  5. Beauty Essence in Mayfair
  6. The London Gender Clinic in Wimpole Street
  7. Face and Body Clinic in Harley Street

I really want to start when I can find a good practioner, but the thing that scares me is the effect it could have on my skin (scabbing or scarring) because I have a light asian skintone and am very susceptible to scars and pigmentation marks.

Anwyay your advice/input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

In the search box, type in “London” and look for referrals in the results.

I know we have had many people from london talk about their experiences.

There is a difference between scabbing and scarring.

Scabbing: Small scabs are temporary side effects and disappear within a week or two. A skilled electrologist with 21st century equipment can leave you scabbless, if she/he is performing electrolysis superbly.

Scarring rarely happens. If someone overtreats your skin repeatedly and does everything wrong, this could cause scarring. You would quickly understand what a bad treatment is after the first time and you wouldn’t continue with that person. One inept electrologist should not be cause to damn electrolysis. It works well evertime it is applied correctly and is frequently the only thing that a person can turn to for permanent hair removal.

Anything that disrupts the skin barrier will cause redness, swelling and maybe scabbing. It’s just not the proceedure called ‘electrolysis’ that disrupts the skin barrier, laser, microdermabrasion, face lifts, eczema, impetigo, cold sores, shingles, self-mutilation, bug bites, ingrown hairs and poison ivy do as well. These afflictions can also cause hyperpigmentation. So why do people expect side effects from these events, but not from electrolysis?

If you want the hair removed permanently, you should really not expect your skin to look untouched after a treatment. You should realistically expect redness or pinkness, swelling and maybe some temporary scabs, that are small, after a treatment. All should calm down within minutes to a couple days. Beginning cases with thick hair structures could take a week or ten days to calm with proper electrolysis. Again, the scabs are dependent on skill and equipment used. Facial scabbing doesn’t have to happen, but can happen. Report this to your electrologist and let her/him observe this, but do be reasonable. If you have two scabs that are the size of a period at the end of a sentence, then don’t make a stink about it or the electrologist may be afraid or turned-off to see you again. Be realistic and polite. Body scabbing is a given for the most part, so do expect this.

If you are that fearful about getting microsurgery (electrolysis) to rid yourself of hair, permanently, then continue with your temporary method(s).

If you decide to do electrolysis, get short sample treatments from as many electrologists as you can and observe the healing. After you gently wash your face with a mild soap, do simple and pure aftercare with witch hazel (during the day), aloe vera gel(during the day), and use very small dabs of tea tree oil at night for three days. Don’t dream or use up any other concoctions or the aftercare may responsible for poor healing outcome and not the electrolysis.

If the electrologist you choose is using an epilator that is an antique, you may have more temporary skin side effects. Compare. Compare. Compare.
