Seeking Advice (Seattle Metro)

I’m looking into laser hair removal and have been reading through this forum for the past couple of days. There is a ton of useful information. Just to give you a bit of a background. I’m a 26 year old male with skin type 2/3 (dark hair/eyes, light skin, get burned easily) and dark coarse body hair. My goals are as follows.

• Permanent hair removal on back, shoulders, and neck.
• Permanent reduction on chest, abdomen, and arms.

Is permanent reduction on the areas I just described realistic without patching? In other words, is laser hair removal all or nothing kind of procedure?

How is the transition between areas with and without hair handled? Is it possible to “blend” these two areas so there isn’t an obvious line separating the two?

I’m located in Seattle area. One place that caught my eye is “Serenity Rejuvenation Center” in Bellevue and they use Cynosure Apogee Elite (Alex and Yag). What is your take on this laser? Anybody has experience with this center? Any places you would recommend in Seattle area?

Many thanks!

The back, shoulders, and neck are only good areas if the hair there is dense, coarse, and dark. The upper arms/upper back/shoulder region has a tendency for induced growth on guys if the hair there is fine. I’ve been treated in that area though even though the hair isn’t coarse and didn’t experience induced growth, so it may be a bit of a crapshoot. The 2 options for this really are:

  1. Start with electrolysis and do it all (though it’s a long and tedious journey)
  2. Use laser to knock out a bulk of the hair and finish with electrolysis

For your chest/abdomen/arms, it is certainly possible to not be patchy though it takes some skill – namely your technician needs to make sure to really cover all the areas and not miss spots. The Apogee Elite is a good laser but it’s also one where you glide over the skin, so it is much more likely to miss spots with that laser than you would with some of the other ones.

Lastly, go Seahawks!

Brenton: When you are making your recommendation for arms are you specifically talking about the forearms? --I have black coarse hair that is dense on my forearms that I would like to reduce the thickness and density of the hair without patchiness – it is important that the final result looks natural.

What’s your experience been like for this area?

The forearms have experienced great reduction. The upper arms not so much but the hair there is also far less coarse and dense. It looks pretty even in the forearms. There’s a little bit of patchiness, but unless you’re looking for it, it’s not really that noticeable. I’ll probably at some point do electrolysis just to help transition the upper arms and forearms a bit, but honestly, it doesn’t look anything out of the ordinary… just looks like there’s less hair on my arms now overall
