sciton clearscan laser

can anyone tell me if they had any experience with this clearscan laser.
i had a consultation with a doctor today and he told me that this laser is a new one better than coolglide cutera.
if any one can please tell me more if they heard a bout it. thanks.

It’s a Yag laser with scanning technology that claims to avoid missing spots. If they have a good amount of experience on this machine, it shouldn’t be any worse than Coolglide. The settings they use will make the difference.

This is a VERY painful machine!!! I have had laser on the Starlux IPL, Candela G and the Sciton. I almost said forget laser hair removal b/c it was so painful. I have never used numbing creams, and hte Candela can get uncomfortable, but it’s over quickly. Good luck with that machine. Hurts!!!

thank you for your help. i think i will give a try. gonna make a appoiment on monday.

I just had my second treatment yesterday with the Sciton ClearScan Laser. I am PCOS and have had serious issues with facial hair for ten years. I tried electrolysis in combination with aldactone (discolored my face) and vaniqua (caused ingrown hairs and acne)- but due to the severity of the issue- the time and money required to be ‘cleared’ by electrolysis and fill those prescriptions wasn’t worth it. I found a Medical Laser center close that offers treatments with the Sciton. I hadn’t heard much about the laser- but this was the only doctor I met with that told me without hormonal therapy I was wasting money and his time. I went back to my GYN and got put on Yaz- and took it for several months before starting laser treatment. The first treatment was very successful on the areas of my face that I never tweezed… the rest of my treatments will hopefully get the rest!

Cricket, what is your skin type? Do you know settings being used? Can you find out joules, spot size and pulse being used?

How much hair do you have on your face? Is it all coarse and dark?

Has Yaz affected your hair growth at all at this point?

Hi- I think I have type I skin (really fair- never tans)- and for the most part the hair on my face is really coarse and dark (though there are some lighter hairs on my chin). I am of Irish ancestry and ALL the women in my family have PCOS issues…

I am honestly not sure how much of the hair reduction is due to Yaz- and how much is due to the laser. I know I have a ton of testosterone in my system- so I think it’s really a combo effect- The Yaz may be helping retard future growth by reducing the amount of free testosterone in my system and the laser is helping to rid the hairs that I have.

I’m sorry I don’t know my settings- and I will have to wait until my next appointment to find them out (they won’t give me my info over the phone  I know that my laser technician has five years of experience- plently with PCOS patients and though the experience is uncomfortable- it is nothing compared to the pain and humiliation of having a beard.

With your skin type, you can actually use a more powerful type of laser, like GentleLASE alexandrite. Yags are really made for darker skin and work best on very coarse hair. Once your hair gets a bit finer, you may want to switch to an alex. I also wouldn’t touch the lighter hair on your chin with laser.

Good luck with your treatments.

I went to the facility and got my settings. Apparently I am not a type 1 skin (I didn’t take into account I had brown eyes and hair- they did  ) so my settings are for skin between type 2 and 3 (probably closer to 3).

The settings for my Clearscan Sciton Laser treatments are : 14 Joules; pulse width 15; tip is cooled to 10 degrees and filter is 640-

I really hope this helps someone else who is ready to try this laser. Again- I know I have only had two treatments- but this in combination with the Yaz- has allowed me to see a good amount of reduction in my facial hair.

If you are a skin type II-III you most likely still can handle the GentleLASE, which if so, will nearly always give better results than a nd:YAG because it is able to target finer hairs. It sounds like you are quite similar to me, light skin, but dark eyes and hair. Thus meaning we are classed as skin type II-III. I can manage 18 joules on the 18mm with the GentleLASE and have tried 20 joules and was not burned either (just a teensey bit to painful for me liking  ).

Have a look on Candella’s website and they should be able to tell you where their machines have gone, so you could look up some in your area. Even if you decide to stay with the nd:YAG, at least your doing so informed eh?

Regards,
Benji

GentleLASE or another alex is still better for your skin type. It’s for skin types I-III and Yags are for IV and darker.

I’m not too familiar with settings on this specific Yag, but for a Yag, they seem extremely low (14j part). Did you see shedding of all treated hair after your treatment? How are you judging reduction at this point?

Hi-
So it has been two weeks since my second treatment with this laser and I am really pleased. I have seen a significant amount of reduction in the hair on the parts of my face where the hair was most coarse and dark (just to be clear though- this means my sideburns- mustache- cheeks) There are lighter hairs around my chin that I know I will have to see an electrologist for- but the laser has given me a huge head start in making my facial hair managable. I really think the Yaz has helped as well- though I am not happy with the six pounds I have gained  My skin has been very clear- with only two ingrowns in the past month- which is really low for me. I was concerned the laser would irritate my skin- but it has been surprisingly wonderful. For the past two days I have woken up and left the house without showering and shaving first. I hope you can understand what a HUGE thing that is.

Hi-

So I actually did go to a facility with that has the laser you reco’ed and I did not like the people at all- It was one of those situations where the only interaction you have with the dr is when he signs the paperwork agreeing to what the technician prices you out at. It was frustrating to see - and I knew I wouldn’t go back… even if the laser is better for my skin type. At the facility I go to now- I had an in depth discussion with the dr- family medical history and all - and there is no extra charge for him to perform the services (as opposed to my dermatologists office). I figure I will stick with this laser- then move to an electrologist- I just won’t have to book three day appointments

A Yag laser gets results on coarse hair. It just doesn’t work as well on finer hair, i.e. you get more bang for the buck with a more powerful laser. Either way, it’s important to be happy with your facility. Also, keep in mind that doctors mostly do not perform this procedure, and most qualified people are those with most experience actually using the machines. LHR is something that’s taught best through experience.

I hope you’re also counting on at least 6-8 treatments before the need to switch to electrolysis. You have only affected one phase of hair so far.

Update! It’s been almost a year since I first posted about my Sciton laser treatments. I had about 6 treatments in all, which showed a significant reduction in the coarse dark hairs only! However, this was pretty significant so I am still happy that I had the treatments. I am currently seeing an amazing electrologist who is helping to clear the random dark hairs and the lighter hairs around my chin. I have had five hours total and am very happy with the results. I have been going for two hour sessions- and even though the recovery time is a little longer I am so happy when I leave! I have also continued the Yaz and have been taking Aldactone again… Hoping the facial discoloration was due to something else and not the Spiro.
