Scabs in Los Angeles

Hi all, I’m new to the board and to the Los Angeles area. I know that there is a forum already on how to find an electrologist in your area. However, I have a more specific question. I recently visited one of the electrologist that was reccommened on this board. While the lady was very nice and did a good job, I ended up getting scabs. Unfortunately having scabs on my face is not acceptable. She used the flash method on me. I usually get the blend but she insisted on using flash. I also had a phone conversation with another electrologist out here who insisted on the flash method. I dont know if that’s a big thing out here…but I’ve been getting blend for sometime now and I do not get scabs. Im not sure if it’s the method or the person. But anyway, I say all this to ask anyone if they can reccommend someone in the L.A. (or surrounding areas) that will not leave me with scabs? Thanks in advance for your help. Sorry for the long post!

The fact that you think that is a long post proves that you are new here in SOOOOO many ways.

That is a short post, and we don’t mind long posts here. We need information in order to help you.

I can’t help too much on the LA recommendations (although we do have lots of them on here thanks to LAgirl and friends), however, I can tell you that the scabs are not automatic just because you have a form of flash/thermolysis work done. Post treatment will figure into your skin condition as well, and could all on its own create or protect from scabs. Practitioner technique can be a factor, but in many cases, it is the post treatment care that makes or breaks the apperance of the skin. Some techniques, of course, require more post treatment care than others.

Sabrina Smith comes to mind, but there are others.

I use PicoFlash thermolysis on an Apilus Platinum and microflash thermolysis before that on a Silhouet-Tone VMC and scabbing was never a problem. Gold or insulated probes were used - not stainless steel. These things can make a difference, but there are other factors that enter the scabbing scene as well. It is not the modality of electrolysis that prevents scabbing, but rather the skill of the electrologist who has as an extra help, GOOD TOOLS to enhance that skill. Modern epilators are simply terrific.

Tina Reynolds is another electrologist that lagirl recommended and there is another that I will have to search for… Actually, if you type in the search feature ‘sabrina’ some threads will appear. I remember one thread had several names included.

Blend can cause scabbing as well. I think we are talking skill for causing or not causing scabbing. By the way, scabbing does not equal scarring! Pinpoint honey colored scabs are acceptable in those beginning treatments, but all should be done to adjust levels of intensity and timing if a client tells the electrologist that they had scabs from the last treatment. We always need to hear feedback in order to refine. Yes, your aftercare determines healing. You personally can cause that acne look by doing not so helpful things to yourself.
