i’m a bit afraid of posting here, as everyone seems to be VERY knowledgeable. i’ve been an electrologist for years, but am now just venturing in the laser world. i’m terrified now that i’ve read a few of these posts. i’ve gotten the mandatory training on a lightsheer, but having seen the damage that some of these people have done to their clients… EEK!! please reassure me SOMEONE, that these are exceptions, and not the norm. i’m totally discouraged and FEARFUL!!!
Burns are rare, especially with proper training, if that’s what you’re referring to? I’m not sure exactly what you’re reading, but if you read the posts, you will see that it’s very rare and almost never permanent. If you’re not scared to scar your clients with electrolysis, you will be fine with laser as well.
Read the FAQs at the link below to learn as much as you can about laser.
Lasers can be very intimidating to electrologists in the beginning. Because of the tedious work we do, we become very meticulous and strive for perfection.
What was the mandatory training? A laser school or from the manufacturer? If it was just in office training from Lumenis, then you probably should consider taking a minimum 30 hour program from a reputable school. Do you have any nearby colleagues with LightSheers that you could practice with?
Complications are rare. You’ll be great.
Have you committed to buying a LightSheer? If not, you may want to consider an alexandrite.
Thanks for the replies. I actually registered this morning for a 60 hour course from a school recognized by the ministry of education of quebec.
And no, i haven’t committed to buying anything. i’ll be renting it. no contracts. i’d love to get your input on the alexandrite. all information is welcome!
GentleLASE by Candela is one of the best alexandrites on the market, and arguably the best laser for light skin. I would strongly consider it. GentleYAG by the same company is a good laser for darker skin. I believe they’re also producing the GentleMAX right now which is both of the above combined in one machine.
Thanks, both of you. Now… Is the Lightsheer in everyone’s bad books? I always heard that it was the most popular system out there. Clearly, I missed something.
LightSheer is a diode and not bad. Alex is just absolute best for light skin. LightSheer is also more difficult to use to provide good results. So it depends if you want to provide ok or the best possible treatments for your clients. The differences are explained in the FAQs at the link below.
I’ve been treating patients with the Lightsheer for numbers of years and very pleased with the equipment. Yes, with proper training and experience, you will achieve best results. Keep in mind, no sun exposure and best time to treat is late fall/winter/spring months. The Coherent-Amt (canadian distributor) of Lightsheer is one of best model on the market.
