I was wondering if it’s possible to replace the halogen lighting system in a microscope (eg a Zeiss Opmi) with a LED source. I’ve not owned a microscope before, but the white colour/higher intensity of LED’s is an important point for me.
I would rather not tinker with your expensive microscope. It can be done technically with a skilled electrician or someone who knows what he is doing but it’s going to be a lot of work. The light box from your Opmi scope will have to be gutted and a right sized LED with a special ballast has to be installed so that it’s aligned with fiber optic receiver.
Another possible solution is finding aftermarket LED ring lights made to fit microscopes and see if it will fit on the objective lens.
Or buy a totally separate LED light not attached to the scope.
