Reporting Back

I had posted a couple of weeks ago regarding starting electrolysis and not being sure what to expect…I was EXTREMELY nervous…

I noticed while the post didn’t get a lot of responses, it got a lot of views, so I thought I would leave a follow up post…

I was PLEASANTLY surprised!! I took a couple of tylenol an hour and a half before the appointment…I went in, filled out a bunch of paperwork, we talked for a few minutes (there wasn’t much to talk about - I had been firing questions at her for weeks before…at this point, I just wanted to get the show on the road)…she wiped my face down and got to work…she started to tell me what she was doing, and I actually asked her not to…I am very queasy, so I was afraid once I started mentally processing it, I would pass out…I give blood/platelets regularly and I don’t want to hear about it and I make them cover my arm with a sheet while I am donating so I don’t pass out (I am a BIG wimp!!)…I was SUPER tense the entire appointment - I really never relaxed, but here is the full report…

  1. It didn’t hurt as much as laser, it felt different than waxing and different than the blood donation needle…it was more of an annoying prick, but only every so often…I also found myself getting very warm at times (I think that was a function of my nerves more than anything)…I didn’t feel any tweezing at all

  2. I was a bit red at the end (total times for both sides of my face was a little more than 30 minutes)…

  3. I cleaned the area twice a day with witch hazel and put Neosporin on it…I was not allowed to wear makeup for over 24 hours…I ended up waiting 2 1/2 days because I could

  4. I was a little red and mildly bumpy for a couple of days (nothing bad and certainly better than being hairy!)…I doubt you would even notice unless you were REALLY close and looking for it (I was looking in natural light with a magnifying mirror)

  5. It is now a week and a day later, and I couldn’t be happier!! I am going back on Friday to clean up anything that returned and start on the back of my neck as well as cleaning up my hair line

In summary - was it fun? no…Was it “painful”? Not really…Was it worth the money? YES, EVERY penny!!

That’s brilliant, I’m so pleased for you x

Sounds good. DON’T use Neosporin though. It clogs pores. Use witch hazel during the day and tea tree oil at night.

Hopefully, you can relax next time!

7-10% of the population is allergic to Neosporin. The meomycin part is the problem and you really don’t need to use this product. Tea tree oil would be a more natural replacement. Use tea tree oil at bedtime only X three days. Use it in small dabs.

All sounds very good. It’s an awesome feeling to get your feet wet and see that it is not so bad.

I asked about the tea tree oil and she said I didn’t need it…she said any sort of neosporin/bacetracin ointment would be fine…fortunately, I did fine with the neosporin, but I will keep it in mind if I have any problems down the road…thanks!

She did say in terms of regrowth, my face could get worse before it gets better…has anyone had any experience with this so I know what I could be facing? It has been over a week and I am still completely clear…anyone know when I should expect “round 2”?

If you were tweezing or waxing prior to starting electrolysis, then oftentimes people see MORE hair growing in before they see LESS hair growing. It is because that tweezing/waxing thing hides the true amount of hair that will grow on an individual.

She was probably just letting you know that it’s important to be patient…

I figured I have to give it a year and a half of regular appointments before I can accurately judge its effectiveness…I am going to try a few different areas as well…fortunately, when we spoke the first time, she told me about tweezing and waxing hiding hairs/stimulating growth so I stopped about 3 weeks prior to our first appointment (I shaved for those 3 weeks…that was a VERY weird feeling and I was SHOCKED as to how much hair was actually there!!)

If yo have thousands of blond hairs and you want it thinned from your cheeks, sides, upper and lower lip, chin, jaw and neck, it will take many hours spread out over about 18-36 months IIIFFF your electrologist uses microflash or picoflash thermolysis in auto sensor mode. Translation: you need to appointments that are 2 or more hours at a time with a modern electrologist that has great vision and light aids with a great computerized epilator. SHe/he needs stamina and focus. Talking should be nil during treatments so your electrologist can move at an easy flow to get sections of hairs at a time. It is not impossible to do 600-1,200 insertions per hour with this set up.

When you start electrolysis in earnest, you must throw the tweezers away. We need ALL the hair to come to surface so it can be seen and treated.

Bacetracin or tea tree oil are both better than neosporin. They don’t blog pores.

Thanks for the responses!

The tiny blond hairs don’t bother me THAT much…it is the darker ones, or the ones you can feel that bother me…I want my skin to look clear and I want it to be touchable…I would LOVE to get a facial, but I am too embarrassed to let anyone touch my face…

I ditched the tweezers after my first conversation with my electrologist  …I probably have 20 pairs of tweezers that I was too lazy to send back for sharpening…I was literally buying a new pair every few months…I can put that money into electrolysis now!!

I purchased Bacetracin - I will give that a whirl this time…thanks for the heads up!
