Hi judging by your photographs i dont think you had an inital clearance that means clearing an entire area of all hairs it takes many sessions to achieve that
Hi, yes I believe I did have what qualifies as an “initial clearance” on my lower back.
Over the course of about 1.5 weeks I had roughly 15 hours done.
After that that time all hair from the lower back had gone and I was just left with loads of small red bumps. Those have now mostly healed and new hair has come through. Is it fair to say my electrologist has done a good job or not?
Odd really. Even if you had only tweezed the hairs, I would not have expected to see so much hair left (returning?) and not that length. Only 3 weeks? Really? I have to think about this one.
I am unable to clearly view the first image. Had you shaved the area prior to commencing treatment? In the second image, I notice many blunt hairs, with their naturally tapered ends missing. It is possible that many of these hairs could have been sliced at skin level with a sharp pair of tweezers, and were not removed from the root at all. This would account for the instant regrowth.
Sorry seems like that was a bad estimate! It’s been roughly 25 days since my last appointment, and roughly 35 days since I first started the clearance.
For what its worth, I once had this area waxed, and noticed ‘stubble’ as soon as 3 days after the wax. So maybe my hair grows very quickly, or there are lots of dormant hairs under the surface?
She did they say that people will generally have a 30% reduction.
I know she does use a sharp pair of tweezers. So this might be the case…
Generally, I do often feel a “plucked” sensation when she pulls the hair out. I now realise that you shouldn’t really feel as though the hairs are being plucked.
I have refrained from asking her to do the whole back as I wanted to use the lower back as a “test run” so to speak. If she did/does a good job there, then I’d give her free reign. But now I just am not sure whether the work is satisfactory or not.
However, she is the only person within a reasonable distance from me who uses an Apilus and who does long sessions.
If the wax was not hot or strong enough hair could have broken off beneath skin
try plucking a couple of hairs and look closely magnifying glass etc if the ends are not tapered they maybe have been snapped off
While I have seen first hand the difference between other machines compared to Apilus, and believe the Apilus to be superior…
I would suggest looking into other electrologists nearby even if they do not use an Apilus. As the machine alone does not make the treatment successful.
I’m not saying that your electrologist is not proficient, though I would think with 15hrs that the area would have been cleared further than it is. I suggest you try out other technicians even if they do not have an Apilus.
Yes, I have to agree with Catsup. While it’s hard to pin the blame on the new influx of hair because of the waxing (tempted to pin in on the electrolysis though), I would have expected more after 15 hours too.
By the way an Apilus doesn’t have to mean anything. I once had a godawful treatment with nearly zero success by someone with Apilus. What’s your general location?

A 30% reduction is not what most people have, if things are going well. Reduction in your case should have been equal to the number of hairs were present in the skin surface. After two months and a half since the wax, this figure could be the 50/70%.
In red a little hint of what has been going wrong in your treatment.
Submit to a test is an excellent idea, but you should have chosen an area with virgin hairs thus remove any doubt about previous temporary hair removal, unless they were made 8/10 months before the test.
On November 9, 2012, I did a test on my son’s back in order to determine which is the area (Cm2)that I can clean at a reasonable speed which can handle any electrologist with about 5 years experience and if high thermolysis is being used. The area was never touched since then until last Thursday, April 25, the date on which this photo was taken.
My intention this time is to check if my kill rate is the same with a different machine than Apilus Platinum, this time I used the Spectrum of Instantron.
