Red circles from GentleLASE 3 days after treatment

Hey everyone,

So my best friend did laser finally after listening to me, and did most of his stomach with GentleLASE. When I do it, I get red for about 5 minutes then I look competely normal when I leave. I’m skin type 3 but pushing 4 depending on how much sun I get. If i don’t go in the sun for a few months I’m a low 3, but spend any bit of time outside and I’m high 3. Anyway, my friend is asian so I wasn’t sure if that would matter since I’d say he’s a bit darker than me, or at least a different tone. When he was done his session he sent me a picture of it. It looked horrible for a couple of reasons. The first was because you could actually see the 18mm spot size all over his stomach which was red in colour, and this was 3 hours after his treatment. It looked like someone took a solid circle stamp and put it in red ink and just attacked his stomach. I’ve never ever been able to actually see the outline of a pulse on me before, I’ve only seen it in those pictures online when you google laser burns, and you can actually see each pulse.

The second issue I had was that there was no overlapping, in one section it was, but there would be gaps between the pulses, and then wider areas in others which I could’nt believe because I always thought my tech was so good at overlapping. He says it’s not burned though, it doesn’t hurt or anything. This was 3 days ago and the marks are still there just not as dark but maybe half as dark. Is this normal? I found a skin type test online that asks you questions, when I tried it I was a mid to high type 3 so I got him to do it and he was a very low type 3. I was sure he’d score high 3 or a low 4 so it’s strange to me. The other areas he did like face didn’t react like that.

Asian skin like middle eastern skin has underlying pigment. It sounds pigmentation, which means the settings were too high. What were the joules used? You only mentioned the spot size.

Unfortunately I don’t know what the joules were, I only know the spot size because in the pictures it’s obvious that it’s 18mm. I told him to call and ask what it was though that was used. Is it just temporary usually?

Yes, temporary.

edokid — you prob figured this out already, but I found out that those burns – if from gentleLASE could be the cooling agent (cyrogen (sp?)), which sometimes burns the skin even more than the laser heat does. I have some circles possibly from that on my underarms and neck. It seems this happens in the lightest areas so I am guessing it is not the laser.

Oh really, that’s odd. I’ll check and see how he’s doing, I’d post a picture but he prob wouldn’t like that too much  I think they’re probably gone now though. It was just weird looking, like didn’t look like a burn burn, almost more like the skin was dyed red in circles or something.
