I am only 21 and by far the hairiest 21 year old out there. I have a good amount of back hair that I have been wanting to get rid of for the longest time. I have not been in a pool on the ocean or a beach for at least 4 years because I am so embarrassed. Anyway a center about and hour from me has a special, pay for one full session and get the second free. Basically 50% off. There is no catch but their system is a Starlux500 and IPL. I feel like I am the perfect candidate, white skin with very dark think coarse black hair, will a IPL be as benificial as a real laser or should I just pay more and go with a laser?
Where are you located? I’m sure there are other clinics around. We provide ways to find them. The ones that advertize a lot are not the only ones that exist. This isn’t the best machine.
Can you post a photo of your back? The only type of hair that should be treated is very coarse and dense hair.
You should also realize that you’re still young and will likely be developing hair into your late 20s. So you may need some touchups later in life.
As a temporary solution, you can always go to a salon and wax the hair so you can go to the beach.
Please read the FAQs and the last link below on how to find a good clinic. There are links there.
Im am located in Kansas, about 2 hours west of Kansas City and an hour from Topeka. Right now I would really like to get my back hair and shoulders done. I attached a picture.

Your hair is coarse and dense enough on the sides of your back, but not in the middle of it. Make sure they only treat the spots with actual dense coarse growth. Laser can actually induce more growth if treating areas with finer and more sparse hair. Same thing with shoulders.
Take a look at the last link below which has links to search engine for clinics. You are light-skinned, so it would be best if you can find someone using an alexandrite laser like GentleLASE or Apogee.
Candela Corporation which makes the GentleLASE also has a provider search on their site.
And run an Advanced Search on this forum for “Kansas”. I recall a few posts from the past.
You can also run a Google search for clinics in your area and call them to find out which machine they have.
LAgirl thank you for the help. I have found one local and have contacted them. Once I get the ball rolling I will make a progress thread.
Sounds good. Ask what settings they will use when you go in for your consultation and post them here. You need to make sure they’re aggressive enough.
Please continue to post everything in one thread so others can follow easily.
