Five years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS. The unwanted hair is ruining my life. My self esteem is in the toilet.

With that being said, I tried electrolysis for almost a year (about seven months) three years ago. The results were abysmal to say the least.

The first electrologist I tried was terrible. She spent most of the time eating candy (while treating me) and talking. I’m not antisocial but she would pause constantly to get up to get another tootsie roll or to make her point about the story she was telling (She “talks” with her hands.)

After about three months I did not see any results. I didn’t expect for my skin to be clear or anywhere near clear, but I didn’t see any improvement at all.

I switched to a new electrologist and this one was better (some hair started to get finer), but the treatments were extremely painful. After a session my skin would be HOT to the touch, red, and very sore. I had a lot of swelling in the area. I would try to schedule with her on Fridays because I really couldn’t go out after a session with her for two days. It took that long for the swelling to go down and the scabs to fall off. I told her about my discomfort and she got testy with me. She told me that because my hair is coarse (I’m African American) that the current had to be that high. She told me that lowering the current was not an option. She advised me to ice the area after I got home. I did that but my skin started to become discolored in the area she was treating. I again asked her to turn down the current. She got nasty with me and indicated that she could turn the current down but she would not guarantee results. I stopped going to her.

The pain and discomfort was really too much. On top of that I do not want my skin discolored to remove the hair. I want the hair gone but I want my skin intact.

So, here I am read to try again. I decided to really educated myself about electrolysis and I stumbled across this board. I’m very happy I found this site.

I’ve learned a lot here in a short time. I’ve also done research on other places on the net and I believe that the Blend Method would probably be best for me from all that I’ve read.

I would really appreciate a few names of solid PROFESSIONALS in my area. I live in Northeastern Ohio (Canton, Akron, Cleveland). Pittsburgh/Westrern Pennsylvania is also not too far from me.

I’ve deiced to take hold of this problem and not accept defeat. I know there is someone out there who can help me without wasting my time and money or causing me pain or discoloration to my skin.

If anyone here (consumers or professionals) know of anyone in my area, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much.

Are you close to Columbus? if you are that would be very fortunate.

No, I’m not. That’s 3 hours away.

That is a shame, as you would be guaranteed to have great treatment from Dee, one of the posters here.

:open_mouth: I’d travel 3 hours to see Dee. You could probably work it out so you do a lot of work at once and don’t need to make the journey weekly.

I’ll confirm stoppit’s remark. I’d travel three hours to see Dee. She’s that good and she’s definitely worth it.

Well, thanks for the confidence everyone.

Zuggie, I tell anyone from out of town, that they should first sample as many electrologists as they are able to within an hour radius. I understand the driving situation. It can take a whole chunk out of your day, gasoline is expensive, some people have cars that are old and unreliable, some have children and need to arrange for a babysitters (another expense), jobs won’t allow one to get away for a day and so on…

I will private message you a name of an electrologist in the Akron / Kent / Ravenna area if you would like.

I am not the only electrologist that can remove hair with good outcome. We all have our own style, techniques and equipment that brings people to a fruitful end. It is up to YOU the consumer to check things out and decide which style, techniques and equipment you like the best.

Don’t underestimate the importance of finding a good electrologist. Clients will travel long distances to receive treatments that they are confident work. I’ve referred clients to colleagues in other cities, only to have them drive back to Topeka for their treatments.

I would imagine that many of us have had clients travel from long, long distances for their treatments…

Yup, same has happened to me, Barbara. Sometimes I reverse things and tell them they can come to me first and then go out and beyond and compare.

Hi Dee,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, please do PM me referrals in Kent, Ravenna, Akron. Those are all 30-45 minutes from me. If you are able to, please send a few referrals. Cleveland is about an hour, so they’re not out of range either.

I would like to try as many people as possible in my area before going further.

However, I am definitely to the point where I’m willing to make the time and pay the expense to travel three hours to get good treatment. To me it would be worth it.

I’m really tired of this problem and ready to do whatever it takes to deal with it.
