Reactive growth when treating light/finer hair?

I have read in one of the posts on here that if you laser hair that is not as dark/coarse as recommended for lasering, that it can actually stimulate more hair growth and/or coarser/darker growth as opposed to getting rid of the hair … is this true?

What about if you have laser on your bikini where the hair is coarse and dark but the neighboring area (stomach, etc) has light/vellus hair (1cm long) and is not being lasered – can this neighboring area be affected and start growing coarser/darker hair???

Yes it is true, but it is usually only observed on the female face or the shoulder/back area of a male. Getting your bikini line lasered really shouldn’t cause a problem because the laser is not being fired into your stomach. It’s being fired into a thick grove of dark hairs which absorb the energy. Plus that area has a history of GREAT results with laser.

Could it happen? Well, yes. But really it’s not likely in this area and I’ve not read any anecdotes of that particular area giving anyone problems. Theoretically, even if you had a few hairs on your lower tummy get a bit thicker, it would still be worth it to have the thousands of bikini hairs gone for good. You could always touch up the edges with electrolysis if there were any tiny stimulated hairs (again, not likely at all).

Yes, it’s true for areas that laser touches which don’t have the coarse dense hair. So we recommend avoiding those when treating. This is mostly an issue on women’s face and men’s upper arms and shoulders.
