Rachelle laser quest ...lol

hey all,

you might remeber me from the electrolysis section of this site. it feels wierd to be here actually hehe.

well finally after like two years when i started electrolysis on my face, i finally had my underarms done.

Today…i went to a aesthetic school, so students do alot of the work unless one requests a teacher/doctor.

so when i went. it was first a consultation. i didnt expect to have full treatment. but i ended up doing it. I had it done my the medical doctor and one treatment for underarms cost me 84$ cuase it was the doctor who did it. if a student did it, it would have cost 30$ (and thats for both underarms together).

so anyway…the logistics…A palomar EsteLux was used at a setting of 3. i felt next to nothing! i was so surprised and it took maybe a min for each underarm.!!! i was shocked. the laser head is big. i assumed it would be small and it would take a while to treat. but wow, it was fast! and painless.

they said for next time they would jack up the setting since i can tolerate a lot. but for the 1st they didnt want to do too much.

The doc kept insisting that i buy a package of 8. but i wanted to see how the first one went first before i commit. so i paid for that one treatment today for 84$ and if i did more i would let a student work on me so its cheaper. (remember am still doing electrolysis and i cant afford alot right now)

anyway, i got skin type between 3 and 4. i am mediterranian in origin with thick black hair. and alot of it. my face is sligthly more darker than the rest of my body. i got pretty white legs and arms and am assuming my armpits are a 2.

anyway they put a gel first, did their thing. then after it was over, ice, this cream and i was off.

this is first time i did laser and it would be really good if you guys can advice me on this situation.

thanks again!

by the way, before james has a heart attack lol. i did do a search and i read alot before i posted. i heard not so good stuff regarding palomar. but this is a school, wouldnt they be doing the best, cause they got government and school officials monitoring them and stuff. plus they teaching students. anyway i hope its some kind of saftely net so am not being cheated.

unfortunately, no, a school doesn’t mean anything. is that the only machine they have? it’s an IPL, not a laser. It’s not the worst IPL, but for $84 you can have this done with a good hair removal laser. That’s an avg price. IPLs are not really made specifically for hair removal. I would assume that this is a schoool for all types of services, not hair removal in particular, which is a good reason to assume that they don’t know much about hair removal with lasers as is usually the case apart from what the laser salesperson told them.

i believe you’re a mediterranean skin type. can you tell us what type you are on the scale? to learn more about that you can read the FAQs at www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm

Btw, the fact that you barely felt anything is a good sign that it didn’t kill any hair. That hurts

thanks so much lagirl,

boy am i glad i didnt buy the 8 package thing!

that sucks that it being a school doesnt garatee anything.

am going to check out another place near my house thats also a school. and yes they dont specialize in laser. its all cosmetic and stuff and they do laser as part of the progam.

and about my skin type. i already mentioned it. its between 3 and 4. like i tan easily but i burn on nose and cheeks.

hope that helps.

thanks again.

look for someone with an alex laser like GentleLASE or Apogee (check out manufacturer sites for possible listings of clinics) or LightSheer diode laser. And don’t sign up for anything until you’ve had 3-4 consultations and thouroughly compared techniques, machines, prices, etc. It maybe take a bit, but you won’t be wasting your money in the end. Better not to repeat the electrolysis mistake Reading the FAQs I wrote will lead you in the right direction in terms of what to look for at least. It is best if you do your research very well first.

today is thursday december 14th. almost a month since the first and last “laser” treatment i had for my underarms.

let me just say: there was no shedding experienced. even tho thats what they told me and what is normal for laser hair removal.

so the hair is still there. but if there is ANY minute change, i would say that the hair takes a bit longer to grow out after i shave it.

am not going to that place again. lol. and wont be going anywhere till a while. funds are the issue. will see what happens.

later!

the hair on those areas are supposed to shed. you’re right. go to Candela Corporation website and find a GentleLASE practitioner near you. $89 is not cheap. it’s in line with other places for underarms. I paid $100 per treatment and Werenotafraid on this forum only pays $50 per treatment. so there is really no reason to go to someone with avg to bad machine and questionnable expertise.

Be Still My Beating Heart! LOL

Actually, all I really want is for those who choose Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation to have done so after reviewing as much information as possible, and having a realistic idea of what they are purchasing. What causes blood clots in my brain are people who take in some commercial that says cheap, fast, easy, painless, cutting edge, STAR WARS Hair Removal and empty their wallets without looking behind the curtain so to speak.

Electrologists are the ones people come crying to when they have had negative LASER experiences, and they often have the nerve to try to use their LASER experience with some one else, to try to get free treatment or discounts from the electrologist

Peace and Love To All
Happy Holidays.
