Quick check over this info please

Hi, I recently made a post about starting LHR reduction treatments and have received this info back from a clinic:

We use a Gemini laser - the wavelength we use for hair removal is 1064nm Nd:YAG, and we have used this for 7 years now and had consistently good results.

There is no charge for a consultation, and a test patch is usually unnecessary as the laser is safe to use on any skin type. Yes full leg treatment can be done in one sitting which would take around one and a half hours.

In terms of options i was left with a local Sk:n clinic but have found this one too which also charges £300 for full legs. Is the Gemini any good and what about no test patch required - is this a true laser machine? Its the Mulberry House Clinic & Laser Centre just outside Northampton UK

Thanks ever so much for looking : )

I have never heard of this laser before.

A quick search shows that it’s mostly used for skin conditions.

I don’t know what that means for hair removal, hopefully one of the more experienced members can comment on this.

I can’t find any information on spot size or how low the pulse width can go.

I think you are below type III from your pics, in which case you really are better off going for an Alexandrite laser.

I’m concerned about the effectiveness of this machine or the way they use it if they say they don’t need to test patch. Test patches are usually done using 2 to 3 different settings to test the skin reaction. From my experience the clinic will go with the highest if the client responded well.

This is a Yag laser, so best for skin types IV and higher. It would still work on light skin, you just need to understand that it will only work on the very coarse hair.

What is your skin type?

A test spot is not necessary, but finding out the settings they will use on you is to make sure they won’t be undertreating. Ask for spot size, joules, and pulse width.

If you are pale, you’d be better off with an alexandrite laser.

Do not start a treatment with a YAG LASER, as it may be very hard to get rid of the thin hair afterwards.

If you are skin types 1-3, you should start with an Alexandrite laser.

I was under the impression the yag killed only coarse hair leaving the finer hair. Meaning you would need to switch to an Alex anyway vs using an Alex from the start.

A Yag is good for thinning coarse hair, in combination with an Alexandrite laser.
