Questions

Hi,

I’ve been having laser hair removal treatment on my legs for the past several months or so. I’ve been going in every eight weeks. I’ve noticed that the hair grows back fairly quickly, yet much much finer. Is this normal? How much of the hair is supposed to be clear? Also, is it necessary to continue to go when the hair is this fine? I’ve had two treatments thus far.

Also, I believe the laser machine is a Diode.

What is your skin type? Are you seeing all hair shed within 3 weeks or at least stop growing completely at that point? This is what should be happening.

Please read our FAQs at the link below. Hair grows in cycles. You treat, the hair sheds, then you wait for NEW hair in the new growth cycle to come in and you treat it again.

Legs have long hair cycles. If everything is going well and treatments are aggressive at good settings, you shouldn’t need to go in more often than once every 12-16 weeks.

Can you find out which diode and what settings are being used (joules, spot size, and pulse width). If it’s LightSheer diode, are they using compression when treating?

I will find out which diode and what settings are being used. When you ask if they’re using compression when treating (assuming that it is a LightSheer diode), are you asking if they’re compressing the machine against my skin? If so, yes she is.

She’s been telling me to come every 8 wks, so I think I’m going to cancel my next appointment and reschedule it to a later time. My hair is normally very coarse and the hair that has been growing back is extremely fine. I am asian and my skin is fairly light. Thanks for all your advice.

Also, is it necessary for everyone to receive about 6-8 treatments in order to achieve permanent reduction?

It depends. Most end up needing that, but many don’t.

Yes, that’s compression.

Schedule your treatment when there is enough hair to treat and it looks suitable for treatment. Don’t go by random treatment times.

Number of treatments depends. Once you experience diminishing returns and remaining hairs become too fine and sparse, you don’t need any more laser treatments.
