Questions regarding hair depth

  1. How deep are leg hairs?

  2. Are coarse hairs more deep than fine hairs?

  3. I understand laser makes some hair finer. But does it also make the hair shallow? What have you observed on people who were treated with laser before and then came to you for electrolysis treatments? Were their fine hair deep or shallow?

Thank you

Depth of leg hairs will vary. The books indicate 2.5 - 4 mm.

Coarse hair and fine hair can both be deep but generally, fine hair is shallower.
The defining factor determining depth has mostly to do with hair stage.
This means that telogen hair is going to be shallower.

Once the probe is in, skilled electrologists know how to work depth.

Regarding laser: You indicate that laser makes hair finer. I have not found this to be the case. I have found that laser will treat the thickest hairs and not be able to treat the thinnest ones and hence, one is left with finer hairs.

I would like to hear from a laser specialist on your last point, mumbaigirl. In addition to the above comment, I am reasoning that if the thermal energy from LASER hair reduction only partially destroys the target zone, the few remaining hair germ cells will produce a finer, perhaps lighter hair. The depth of the hair will probably be shallower, though I have seen some deep, fine hairs with good- size root sheaths.
