Questions. Any answers?

I just started doing my upper lip area a few weeks ago and have some questions.

Is the type of electrolysis where you hold a metal device called thermolysis?

The lady I go to uses a tweezer as well. I don’t feel a plucking sensation, just some slight tugging on a couple hairs, is this okay?

Between treatments, I used to trim slightly, but I have heard that can leave the hairs blunt, which sort of defeats the purpose of the hairs becoming finer. Should I leave the hairs alone all together?

Is there anyone on here from Minnesota that can recommend a quality electrologist? I’m comfortable with the lady that’s doing it right now, but it never hurts to ask.

It could be either the blend or thermolysis. The blend requires the client to hold an electrode so the galvanic half of the machine will work. Thermolysis machines in the autosense mode (no foot pedal) require a hand held electrode so the machine will know when to discharge the current. The electrologist uses a tweezer or forcep to epilate or remove the hair after the follicle has been treated, so this is normal. Trimming or shaving has NO effect on hair growth and will in no way inhibit or adversely affect the electrolysis process.

More than likely if you’re holding a metal rod it’s Galvanic or Blend. You’ll know galvanic is involved if you have a slight metallic taste in your mouth (provided you have fillings) while he/she is working on your upper lip.

When in doubt, ask!

And yes, once the hair is dead the follicle size should reduce as well. I think this was one of your previous questions.

the slight tug your feeling is her trying to remove the hair and it needs more treatment. she reinserted the probe and treated the hair again for it to slide out… it would have felt like tweezing if she just pulled it. to me it sounds like you have a good zapper.

If she is tugging to extract them, then I don’t like the sound of it.

she said a slight tugging on a couple of hairs… not a tweeze… if there were alot id agree with you but one in a while … heck were only human.

Thanks for the responses. I was just curious what everyone’s opinion was and if the tugging from time to time was something I should be concerned about. I do have confidence in my electrologist, and if I was greatly concerned she was plucking the hairs, which I would feel, I would bring it up to her immediately. I don’t joke around with this! Having this hair is enough to deal with.

If it’s from time to time and you don’t feel the the need to bring it up, then it’s not an issue.

But tugging and tweezing are the same in my book in terms of treatment. Either way, the follicle is not fully treated. I know people make a distinction to say “well, it’s not intentional plucking and therefore someone ripping you off”.

“The electrologist uses a tweezer or forcep to epilate or remove the hair after the follicle has been treated, so this is normal.” That’s what Hairadicator said, which makes sense to me. I can see how you would consider tugging and tweezing the same though.

Using a tweezer to remove hairs from a treated follicle is normal. Tugging the hair to get a release means the follicle has been undertreated. If the electrologist notices this his/herself, like izapem said, they reinserted to get a smooth release then great. If not and it’s tugged out, 1 in 100 hairs tugged - not so bad. 10 in 100 hairs - not so good (in my opinion).
