Questions about laser hair removal for face.

I need to find a good laser hair removal in south Florida to get rid of the hair on my face. I’m male, white skin, black hair. I hate shaving which I have to do every single day. I just want to get rid of my facial hair forever so I never have to shave again.

  1. What machine and model should a clinic be using?

  2. About how much should it cost and how many treatments would I need to get rid of all the hair on my face and neck (excluding eyebrows)?

1-any of the alexandrite machines are your best bet. if not, I think lightsheer diode is second best.

2-costs are diffirent for each clinic. make sure you dont pay upfront for packages because if your treatments arent done well you cant safely quit. also, if you have small light hairs on your face don’t get those treated as they may get worse.

If you want to never shave again, you will need electrolysis. There are a number of people who had laser done which often results in patchiness if done improperly.

I’ve done laser on my beard, and while I still have to shave, I can go quite a bit longer without shaving. If you can find someone who can do beards properly, you can get a decent reduction on your beard, but to never shave again, you will definitely need electrolysis.

It sounds like you should look for someone with either a gentlelase or gentlemax

Yag is good for beard as well as it works well on dark coarse hair and goes the deepest. I had great results with Apogee Elite yag on my face.

if you have a full beard of coarse dark hair I say then maybe try laser if you dont have much hair then I say caution because laser in some cases causes increased hair growth in areas you did not have hair before.

I am getting it done on my face. Don’t expect miracles overnight. It will take several sessions to see the kind of results you want. For me the chin is the issue. Not really patchy, but small areas that have to be worked over as the hair comes in. Once you start you’ve got to stick with it and remember in the first 4-5 sessions, the chin area is not going to be perfect. The side of the face though for me was no problem at all. The chin area is the tough part. I say it is worth it. No more ingrown hairs for me. I am using a YAG by Candela. However you being white, the Alexandrite recommended above is indeed the way to go, though you might want to use the YAG on the chin area. It will cost you about $200 to $250 per session and you are looking at about 8 to 10 sessions. There are usually all kinds of discounts so you have to ask.

Thanks for all the advice!

OK so I’ll look into some electrolysis if the laser doesn’t really work. I’ll check out Alexandrite or Lightsheer. I do have thick beard.

Are they better than the gentlelase/gentelemax?

So I have to expect about 10 sessions, and make sure I save enough to cover about $2,000 before starting?

Gentlelase is a type of alexandrite laser. Gentlemax is both an alexandrite and YAG laser in one. I don’t know enough about lightsheer to give a good judgement, but I think I remember reading it’s more difficult to use.

Personally, I like the gentlelase/gentlemax more than the apogee series, but that’s just me.

I’ve had 4 sessions so far and I notice quite a reduction already. If your laser sessions use very high and powerful settings, it shouldn’t take 10 sessions, but it also may cost more than $200-250 as well. You should find different centers with a laser (Candela’s website has a practitioner locator for people who own their lasers).

Lastly, it will hurt like hell (if not, then it’s not being effective.) My dermatologist gives me numbing injections in my face to help the pain, and it can still hurt a lot. In addition, what she does on me… she goes over my face and neck with the alexandrite laser and then goes over it again with the YAG portion (she has a GentleMAX). If you can find someone with a gentlemax, you may be able to ask if they can do that on you. I have found that to be quite effective.

Apogee Elite MPX can fire alex and yag at the same time, or rather alex then instantly after yag as well which saves a lot of time of doing the whole face twice. Face does hurt like hell, my tech has numbing cream that her friend made her that owns a pharmacy so it’s super strong and even with it it still kills. I don’t use numbing cream anymore as I’ve had a big reduction so it’s not as bad but still hurts a lot. I’ve used GentleLASE as well as Apogee Elite and both are pretty much the same.

So I think the Apogee Elite MPX treatment would be something I would go with. How do I find a good practitioner in my area that uses that?

Just google I guess. Just because they have it though doesn’t mean they will use that mode. My tech with Apogee Elite uses super high alex settings, I don’t think she’d even consider touching my face after with the Yag. My face gets so swollen and red from the alex that I wouldn’t even want her to try the yag since the Alex is so high.

My other clinic has the MPX and even they won’t use the dual mode. It’s very slow for one thing, takes 2-3 seconds per pulse, and she told me there they only use it after like 6 treatments to finish up with it for some reason.
