question

I’ve had 3 treatments on my legs with the cultera coolglide ND yag laser. I havent seen good results on my lower legs, it seems to just be growing back as normal. My thighs however are very red from the treatment I had 2 days ago, while the lower legs dont have any redness. I’m worried about the people that are treating me. I’m male and I made it clear that I wanted a reduction in the amount of hair, but not a total clearance. They assured me that 5 or 6 treatments would do the trick. Now they are telling me 6 to 10 treatments. They havent even moved me up to the lightsheer diode laser yet, which I have heard is more powerful. The reason the technician says that she is keeping me on the ND YAG is because of ‘personal preference.’ I’m very frusrated becuase I’ve already spent almost 2 thousand dollars. I have very pale skin and almost black, coarse hair. What should I do? Demand to be switched to the Lightsheer diode? I’ve seen almost no results on the lower legs with 3 treatments. I think they should redo my lower legs and go more slowly, because I feel that the technician rushed the treatment. I dont know what setting the laser was on either. How long should full legs take if I have coarse hair covering every inch of my legs? They took alomst 2 hours on me last time, but I’ve heard that 3 hours is correct. please reply

  • It would really help if you can find out the settings (joules, spot size, and pulse) being used

  • Do you see all treated hair shed within 3 weeks after each treatment? That’s how you can tell if the treatment was effective. If a lot of hair doesn’t shed, it wasn’t really affected and should be touched up at 3 weeks.

  • How how apart are they spacing the treatments? Legs shouldn’t need treatments more than once every 12 weeks.

  • If treatments are effective, you shouldn’t need more than 4-5 treatments for just a good reduction and not total removal.

  • It takes about 2-2.5 hrs, depending on how tall etc you are.

Okay mt settings are 60 joules with a 10 mm spot size i think? thats what she told me. She didnt give me and number for the pulse. So if not alot of hair sheds I need a touch up? How can I get them to do that for me for free? Right now, 3 days after my 3rd treatment on the cultera ND YAG, I am rubbing my hand over my legs and I hardly notice any reduction. There are some spots where it is more sparse, but the majority of my legs have the same volume of hair, and the hairs are the same thickness as they always have been. Should I switch to a place in Raleigh, NC that has a gentleLASE, I’ve been told on this forum that the LASE is more effective for light skin and dark hair. oh, and my treatments are 8 weeks apart, not 12

  • You can’t tell anything at 3 days. You need to give it 2-3 weeks.

  • Many clinics offer touchups. Not sure about yours. Some try to explain it away so that they don’t have to do anything.

  • Yes, alexandrite is better for your skin type. Those settings are not too bad on a Yag, IF the pulse is low - under 20ms, but if you can handle those settings, you should definitely be using an alex for better results. Plus 10mm spot size is small. GentleLASE has an 18mm spot size, which is better for results.

  • If there is nothing keeping you at this clinic, I don’t see why you wouldn’t try a better laser. Of course, make sure to use a good clinic with that laser that knows what they’re doing.
